PortableVBox Info

Hi everyone,

I thought I would start a new thread on Portable Virtualbox. I know it's been talked about before but I have found an autoit script that a guy called Red_sleeves has written (I only have the autoit exe and not the actual script). The exe's that he has done are called "LaunchVBox.exe" and "VboxMain.exe". He has compiled them in the latest autoit version and cannot be decompiled (I've tried!).

I have seen on the torrents that there is a 1.5.4 and 1.5.6 version. I would like to try to get the new 1.6 version working but unfortunately the 1.5.6 version doesn't work with it (I haven't tried the 1.5.4 version).

If anyone has access to the autoit script or knows Red_sleeves and can get the script then please post it here so that others can have a look at it and perhaps get it to work with 1.6.

Hopefully we can get the script, credit Red_sleeves and make a portable launcher for virtualbox. I know that there are lots of people on here that this would make them happy especially me.

Cheers

Where did you find his

Where did you find his script? I read on another blog that he had one, but never linked or posted it.

Unfortunately the other portable vbox that was written has some precompiled binary parts to it without source as well. I'd be happy to take a look if you can get some source somehow.

What did you try to decompile it with? I know there are some tools around for that...

I downloaded the 1.5.6

I downloaded the 1.5.6 version (complete) from torrent scan. inside there is a readme.txt, LaunchVBox.exe and VBoxmain.exe and then all the parts to virtualbox, it's about 25mb complete.

I tried to reverse LaunchVBox.exe using "Exe2aut.exe" that comes with autoit but it errored. I then found out on the forum that as of newer versions of autoit it doesn't allow you to decompile the scripts, and these exe's that I have found are done in the latest stable version.

I won't post a link to the torrent (just incase I shouldn't) but if you search isohunt for "portablevbox" then you should get 2 hits. The 25mb has the above files in it.

Hope you can help wraithdu. speak soon

Found 1.6 version with source code!

I thought I would let everyone know I found this at Portable Freeware Collection.
[link removed for possible license and trademark violation - moderator PP]

It contains a link to a 1.6 version of portable vbox. It was written by a German called 'michaelm_007'. The biggest bonus is it contains the autoit source code!!!

Enjoy everybody. I'm now going to play with it to see what it can and can't do.

Works

that actually works. I took a look at the source code and it's just a few lines, not much (of course, I could never have come up with it). I need to test it on another computer to see if it leaves things behind. I can't test it on this one 'cause I already have VBox installed. I'll post my results later, unless someone else beats me to it.

I haven't looked yet, but is this the OSS version of VBox, or the full freeware version?

not sure

I'm not 100% sure which version it is, but I'm pretty sure it's the full version.

If it has USB support, it's

If it has USB support, it's the full free version (OSS doesn't have USB).

Full

then, I guess it's the full version 'cause on the source code it calls for the VboxUSB.sys and VboxUSBMon.sys

Removed

I've removed the link for now until I can take a look and verify which version it is.

I think it's the full one not the open source one.

Sorry Patrick P for posting the link. Should have realized you guys only want the open source one.
Perhaps now we have the autoit source we can modify it to work with the open source version.

Has anyone got windows binaries of the virtual box ose version? I see the source code
on the website but I don't have a clue how to compile it.

Dear All, I would very much

Dear All,
I would very much like to try VirtualBox OSE under WinXP but unfortunately do not have Visual Studio to compile it myself. Does anybody know where is it possible to download windows binaries of VirtualBox OSE ?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Alex
