Sync Equalise - Should check "file content" not just timestamp (FAT-NTFS Timestamp Errors)

Hi Guys,
Great product! The only thing missing for proper syncing is the option to check content within a file between different directories.

Without this option, the program will copy files back and forth directories, if run multiple times. This is especially true when using FAT16 and NTFS. This file time stamp attributes are slightly different.

Regards,
George.

Huge flaw!

I have run into the same problem. I run daily incremental backups of my documents and programs. I don't have a huge amount of disk space for backups and I run out very quickly when it backs up the same files every time even though they weren't changed. I backup my portable apps on a weekly basis and it backs up almost every file on every app every time even though I didn't even use most of them. I'm not a programmer so I have no idea what the cause of this is, but it is rather annoying.

I don't want to completely criticize you though. I do love Toucan! I use it for all my backups and syncs. I have even gotten it into use running the backups at my job. It's simple and gets the job done!

Thank you
Kevin

Hmm,

incremental backups are unfortunately a little beyond my control as they use 7zip I shall do my best though, do you have an on demand virus scanner, I have a feeling they might modify times and thus cause the extra files to be backed up.

Ahh

OK, I have not come across this problem before, would it be sufficient to add a little bit of leeway on the timestamp check to stop this?

FAT (and related) file systems

use a two second resolution for timestamps, so generally, yes. Many sync apps say that if the times match +- two seconds, then they are the same time.
