Mozilla Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1

Mozilla Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is the latest test release of the upcoming 3.0 version of Firefox. With tons of new features, security enhancements, performance upgrades and more, it's one of the most widely-anticipated releases this year. And, thanks to the PortableApps.com packaging, you can try out all the new features without impacting your locally-installed copy of Firefox. For more on what's new, read the Mozilla Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Release Notes.

Smooth update from the latest beta. I hope they update Ubuntu soon cause I find the older one rather buggy Smile

When the final release is made (or possibly RC2), we'll be doing a French release. We're debating doing test releases for our supported languages (English, French, German and Italian with 3 others soon). You may find other French versions floating around but I wouldn't recommend them as they're unlicensed, unofficial and unsupported.

Any guide on how to config it for harddrive use? Max performance? I like portable software because it backup capabilities. (WinXP SP3)

The usual... just turn on cache and set it to around 50MB (my personal sweet spot). The launchers now use an intelligent startup technique so they know when they haven't been moved (in your case, for instance) and bypass the path changing in config files for the fastest startup possible. Smile

The Javascript engine speedups are worth it alone. Gmail, Yahoo mail, and any other heavy AJAX or Web 2.0 site are waaaayyy faster with FF 3.0

Hi,
I have been using (portable)PFF2 from last 1 year and have been updating it till *.*.14 latest build.
Now i have update PFF2 with PFF3RC1, as per updating steps given on this site. Everything works fine except session manager, I am using default session manager of FF, it was working fine with PFF2 but PFF3 doesn't restores tabs. i don't have any addon for session manager. HELP!!!

Also, is there any way we can clean up PFF folder? my PFF2 folder size is now 88+mb(without cache)with 1627 files, i have been using it from last 1+ year. Does it affects performance?

Why PFF2 wont update to PFF3 as update? same as it did till build *.14

The auto-update feature is specific to Firefox, not the portable edition. Every time you let FFP use the auto-update, you run the risk of breaking a local installation of Firefox, or leaving traces that your app was run. This is an issue on Mozilla's end, not ours, and they are working to fix it.

Firefox will not upgrade to Firefox 3 until FF3 becomes final, currently it is only a release candidate (almost ready, but not quite).

In the future, it's best to download the latest portable release from this site and run the installer, rather than using the auto-update feature included in Firefox. Doing things this way will keep your data and settings, it only replaces components of the application. It should also prevent the bloating of the folder that you described.

thats exactly what he did. He updated from 2 to 3RC1 and things got messed up a little.

Shock you mean to say, i should not use inbuilt update and wait till portableapps has the update?
OMG, all my customization is gone i have to startup all over again Sad

Thanks a lot for all the help.

No, your customization won't be lost. Using the updates from PortableApps.com KEEP your settings, they only replace the application components.

As should have been evident from the conversation, he has screwed up his install by using firefoxs update - so he has to scrap that install and start all over - so is customization will be lost.

Hi Everyone,

I was testing the PFF3beta for while and when the PFF3RC1 was released I decide to do final test before I switch. Unfortunately, I have encounter a problem with my extensions.
I am using Adblock Plus 0.7.5.4, GMark 0.9.9, and NoScript 1.6.5. All of them are compatible with FF3RC1 and worked for me. The problem started when I tested portability of PFF3RC1. Every time when I move and my drive letter changes or the installation path changes the PFF3RC1 marks my extensions as incompatible. I have to uninstall and re-install them.
Is anybody else have experienced this problem? If not can somebody else try to replicate the problem. Here is how I tested it.
1. Create a network share.
2. Mapped the new share as drive Secret
3. Install the PFF3RC1 on Secret
4. Install add-ons.
5. Test and make sure that all works.
6. Disconnect the drive Secret
7. Mapped the network share as drive Y:
8. Run the PFF3RC1 again.

At this moment I notice that my add-ons are disabled.
I did the same on the local disk, but this time I moved the PFF3RC1 folder from E:\PortableApps to E:\ProgFiles and the same problem was observed.

Thank you,
SAL-e

Network drives are different than portable media meaning the system could treat them differently.

If people could use the test scenario above, but use these 3 test scenarios:
1) a network drive mapped with different letters
2) portable flash drive in multiple machines that assign different drive letters
3) portable hard drive in multiple machines that assign different drive letters

I actually have the hardware to try all three, but don't use portable Firefox or any extensions. If I find some time, I'll try to help you sort this out.

When you try to start it and Portable 2 is still running the launcher refuses to start - could we get it changed so its possible to have both running? Would be faster to set things up right in version 3 (I mean i suppose i could run it in Virtual PC - but that would be a bit annoying)

Are you trying to run two instances of the menu at the same time on two piece of physical media (like two thumb drives at the same time for example)? Or maybe trying to run the old menu and new menu at the same time?

We need clarification on what you're trying to do. You lost me (and others too I assume).

I ment what I wrote. When you try to start Firefox Portable 3 while Firefox Portable 2 is running it refuses to start.

But Patrick explained how to fix it.

You mean run Firefox Portable 2 and Firefox Portable 3 simultaneously? In the Other\Source directories, copy the FirefoxPortable.ini's up to the directory with FirefoxPortable.exe. Open them in a text editor, and set AllowMultipleInstance to equal true.

Hope that's what you want.
