Hi All,
Ok. I apologize if this makes me sound like a techo 'tard, but is Thunderbird.exe supposed to be running at the same time as ThunderbirdPortable.exe? I have the program on a flash drive that I am using here at work.
I recently upgraded to version 2.0.0.14 without uninstalling the previous version. I don't know if it's because of that or whether it's my work computer causing the issue, but practically as soon as I start up, it gets all the messages off the POP server and immediately has to close down. When I start up again, I go to flag all the Junk and it has to close down again. Practically everything I do causes it to have to shut down.
Should I copy all the data files and install the new version again?
Thanks for all your help.
Yes, Thunderbird.exe should be running while ThunderbirdPortable.exe is running. ThunderbirdPortable.exe is just a launcher for Thunderbird.exe that takes care of backing up local settings, and applying your portable settings, then restoring the local settings when you close.
As for the random closing, i have no idea.

that is messing up. I wonder if it is trying to do something and it fails and closes the program. Are you getting what error message popup?
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
Pretty generic.
"thunderbird.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I've noticed that it happens mostly when I try to flag Junk Mail.
This often occurs on a drive that's failing or on a drive or USB port with loose connections. As the connection flicks on and off it causes corruption.
So, first, be sure and backup your drive.
Then, check it for errors (right-click the drive in Explorer, click Tools and under Error-Checking click Check Now).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
