Problems with beta firefox

I noticed a few things that PA forgot to change with the new firefox.

-Saves to the desktop by default
-Checks for updates to firefox (Both versions)
-I cant run the new beta and the old version at the same time, even though at home, I usually can run multiple firfox's at once.

1. ALL versions of Firefox

1. ALL versions of Firefox that i've seen do this

2. Auto update has NEVER been, and can never be disabled

3. Try the AllowMultipleInstances ini option. Remember to move the ini from /Other/Source to the main dir for FFP

You mean by default

You mean by default right?

"2. Auto update has NEVER been, and can never be disabled"

It can Always be disabled by the user.
Just wanted to make it clear.

Ok

1. the non beta firefox has it to ask where to save the file.
2. Why cant we change it? Doesn't updating ruin the local install?
3. But what if the PC's firefox is running?
4. Does auto updating plugins mess with local installs?

I believe you may be right on the download location. I think it should ask where to save. We can't change it as per the licensing agreement John has with Mozilla. Currently, it does mess with the local install a bit, but there's not much more we can do. If a PCs Firefox is running, it will ask you to close. It shouldn't. It may mess up local unportable plugins if your plugins are not portable.

Well,

So, when I updated my plugins, it affected the school PC that doesn't have firefox?

Which means I really don't know. If the school PC doesn't have Firefox, but the plugin is not portable, sure it may add it settings somewhere on the PC or in the registry just like a plugin can any time if it does not store its settings in the Firefox profile folder.

Erm

1. just go to tools/options/main and select your standard download preferences
- i´d chose "ask everytime..." or desktop ´cause FFP uses absolute paths
nothing to change or preset in a portable edition
2.autoupdate works but changes the registry settings from the local to the portable FF, it doesn´t ruin anything, really; but keep in mind that a lot portable updates provide a new, hopefully improved/bug fixed launcher
- disabling it wouldn´t be a great thing (as it has been performed in Open office portable)
but I don´t know whether the ff autoupdate is joined to other update functions, e.g. for addons;
but again, it´s no big deal to set the preference to ask - maybe that could be preselected as default?
3.only one instance can run (if you haven´t allowed multiple instances by .ini),
but I had a strange issue with an earlier beta 3 closing down slowly and a FF2.0
immediately starting afterwards fom the same drive.I had a FF2.0 crash and both profiles got mixed up and corrupted (happened only once)
4. addons don´t mess with my local extension for now; it would mean that both profiles mix or use the same extensions folder. Could be possible, if FFP is started from app/firefox folder bypassing the launcher.Local profile would be created and could theoretically mess with the default local one..
remember it´s FF RC1 - tester´s only, not a default app!

New problem

This one is with the built in troubleshooter. This was weird. It was on my home PC. The beta firefox crashed (Wasn't firefox's falt, my PC flashdrive 2.0 ports stink) so I sent a report on the troubleshooter and told it to reset firefox. This is where it gets weird. First, it said that some plugins were incompatable and needed to be turned off. However, there were plugins installed on my LOCAL firefox! Then, when it started up, it went to the firefox upgrade startup page, with the overhead of the beta! I Xed firefox out, and started up the portable version. The portable version asked if I wanted to open tabs, and worked just fine. I still need to check if my local version is alright though...

Edit: Oh no. This is not good. I used the icons from the start menu and the desktop, and now it opened up a firefox that was an exact copy of the Beta 3 on my drive!!! I'll try using a manual opening in Program files.

Edit: Manually opening it seemed to work. It first did a check to see if the plugins were compatable. Then, it opened up to the "Upgrade to 2.0.14" page. All my add ons seem to be in order. I will check the shortcuts in a second.
