User Poll:: Computer Languages

Questions:

  1. How many computer languages do you know? (Python, C++, XHTML, MS-DOS/Batch, Bash, etc.)
  2. What languages do you want to learn? (Python, C++, XHTML, MS-DOS/Batch, Bash, etc.)
  3. Proficiency? ("I only know 2 commands"/ Acceptable /"Might as well go Pro" or "I am a Pro")
    This is not limited to app programing languages!!!! You don't have to be a professional Smile Make sure I can understand what you mean because you don't have to use the quotes. Please use the quotes.

Preferred Layout Template: using <pre> and <ol>, <li>, and <strong> tags.

<ol>
<li><strong>Known Languages:</strong> </li>
<li><strong>I want to learn:</strong> </li>
<li><strong>Proficiency:</strong> </li>
</ol>

I'll start:

  1. Known Languages: XHTML, CSS, MS-DOS/Batch, Java
  2. I want to learn: PHP
  3. Proficiency: Somewhere between "...2 commands" and "Acceptable" for all 3. My MS-DOS/Batch skills are the strongest.

I'll follow
  1. Known Languages: (X)HTML, CSS, XML, AutoHotKey, Bash (Linux Command Line)
  2. I want to learn: JavaScript, XSL, PHP, XUL, NSIS, Pyhton, C++ (in a distant furture)
  3. Proficiency:
    • (X)HTML: I think I am pretty good, so something bettwen "Acceptable" and "Might as well go Pro"
    • CSS: Same as (X)HTML (see sergentsiler's site, even though his server ruins my code
    • XML: "I am a Pro" (who doesn't? Even though I don't know a thing on how to style it/manage it/etc)
    • AutoHotKey: "I only know 2 commands"
    • Bash: "I only know 2 commands"

And you forgot to add closing tags to <ol> and <pre> in the template tags (the <pre> one just misses the backslash \)

And, what do you think of my layout?

Blue is everything.

Known Languages:HTML,
  1. Known Languages:HTML, Python, JavaScript
  2. I want to learn:XML, CSS, C++
  3. Proficiency:I'd say "Acceptable" for all of them except for HTML which would probably be "Might as well go Pro"

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with Windows.

Nice layout

Template tags are changed Smile

By the way your "XML" description is confusing "I am a pro"(who doesn't?... Is a little hard to follow Smile

Ok

XML tags are custom, so, who wants to make xml has no problem besides the syntax. What comes into problem is styling the XML so it doesn't look like plain code on browsers. (XSL, CSS, DTDs and stuff)

Blue is everything.

  1. Known Languages: NSIS, MS-DOS, HTML, Bash
  2. I want to learn: C++, C, C# (no comments :P)
  3. Proficiency: All I would say are "acceptable." I'm not particularly strong in one certain area.

And me
  1. Known Languages: C++ with wxWidgets,, VB.NET, Assembly, SQL (not really a programming language), Erlang, French Wink
  2. I want to learn: Russian Wink Programming wise I think I am pretty well set up with the range of languages I know.
  3. Proficiency: The C++ with wxWidgets is very stong, after all I have a released an app in them on this site, the VB.NET is pretty strong too. Assembly SQL and Erlang are acceptable, would like to increase my knowledge though. The French definitely needs work, now I no longer take lessons it has gone downhill.

Okay.
  1. Known Languages: HTML, JavaScript, NSIS, AHK, Batch, BASIC, Java, CSS
  2. I want to learn: PHP, C++, AU3.
  3. Proficiency: Decent at HTML (a little rusty), a near master at NSIS, an amateur at AHK, an amateur at Batch Files, can't even find a BASIC compiler, can't compile Java, have never used CSS (but read about it).

I'm glad I borrowed PHP for Dummies.

Known Languages: Batch,
  1. Known Languages: Batch, Java
  2. I want to learn: Bash, C++
  3. Proficiency: I can do quite a bit with Batch, but it's not a terribly complicated language; I forgot a lot of what I learned for Java.

I'd like to be as proficient with shell scripts as I am with batch files. It would really make things easier with Linux. Can anyone point me to a good bash scripting tutorial/lesson/manual?

Me:
  1. Known Languages:NSIS, AutoHotkey (probably could do AutoIt too, but I haven't used it much), (X)HTML, CSS, and I've dabbled in Delphi.
  2. I want to learn: C(#/++), PHP, but first I'd like to learn more of the languages I already know. I plan to take some courses at my high school sometime.
  3. Proficiency: Self taught in all languages. I have pretty acceptable skills with NSIS & AHK considering I've learned everything I know by experimenting with source from other projects. Same with HTML & CSS, on the higher end of "acceptable". Delphi is "...2 commands"ish. Blum

Known Languages: HTML,
  1. Known Languages:
  • HTML, well, enough to be dangerous,
  • AutoHotKey
  • Enough NSIS to be dangerous
  • I want to learn:
  • More NSIS, Python

  • Proficiency:
  • Enough to be dangerous. AHK is pretty strong, though.
