Download SUPER Portable Launcher
Release Notes:
-
Development Test 1 (2008-05-30): Initial Release
Note: When installing SUPER, install to App\eRightSoft\SUPER Directory, uncheck all the creation of shortcut links, and do not launch program after setup is done. If you are on your own computer, just install SUPER regular and the launcher will do the rest for you once executed.
ReadME:
Launcher is written in ahk, new features, runs better than previous script, tried to put in automatic downloading from internet of setup file but couldnt find a host that didnt update the link every 30 min. This script will automatically locate SUPER on host computer and copy necessary files over, if you already have SUPER installed nothing will be deleted or removed.
Thank you ! I waited for this for ages...
It just don't open on my computer (yes I copied what was in /erighsoft/super to the folder of the launcher). I need to test it on other computers...
I have the same problem on mine. It's Windows Vista *shudders* Home Premium if that helps.
I'm on Windows XP
You should indicate what version of SUPER this intended for, just to be safe.
I know there are a few versions still out there.
Thanks,
Tim
Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
It probably doesnt work because it needs to get the necessary files from Windows\system 32 folder let me try and get that to work.

...does it need?
I'll put it in and see if that fixes it.
New Test. Should fix problems that some of you had. Also if you have a local install, it will copy the necessary files to the DefaultData folder, then to the $SETTINGSDIRECTORY. If you mainly use it on the computer that has the local install it will use the necessary files from it, but if you move to a computer that doesnt have SUPER installed, it will move the settings from the $SETTINGSDIRECTORY to the System 32 folder. I have been testing it out a lot and im pretty sure it works fine now. Also make sure to use the latest version of SUPER.

Perhaps I'm misreading something here but how does anyone but an Admin move anything TO the System 32 folder?

It's still not doing anything. I just realised however that neither is the local install (I had installed just to test this as MediaCoder annoys me)
I'll try and find a version that actually works and test it with that.
Just in case anyone is doing this, if you compress any of SUPERS files, it stops working. I tried compressing it with the PortableApps compressor and it did not work. So just in case you did that, just uninstall the one you compressed and reinstall. I wonder if I could just put the necessary .dll and other files that it needs with the app instead of trying to get them from a local install.

I now have a working local install but the portable version is still not opening at all.
Did you ever get the portable version to work?? If not im gonna try and fix that right now, Ill add a bit more IfFileExists, cause I only did it for one file, maybe that file never got created after install.

are the executables, etc correct?

Just wondering would it be against the rules to just include the files it needs, it needs a .dll files and a few .ax files, without those it wont even launch. But ill be trying to fix that as soon as possible.

Check above for changes, for those of you having problems, please try this again and tell me if it works, im not sure what platforms it supports, so that might be a reason why some of you using vista have problems with this, but im not sure. Please test this out again, and remeber to just copy the C:\Program Files\eRightSoft to The "App" directory then it will ask you if u want to overwrite it, then choose yes.

Should there be anything in the settings directory?
It's now working on my computer
But due to the fact that there's nothing in the settings directory I don't think it'll work on one without a local copy.
Check the App\Default Data" Folder, if there are files in there then u r good to go, cause I set it not to take out those files from your computer, this way u can keep the local install. So try SUPER portable on another computer that has never had it on there, and everything should be copied to the "Data\settings" directory if not just delete the "settings" folder when ur on a new computer, relaunch SUPERPortable.exe and it should work.

There is a few files in App/DefaultData/settings.
Anyway, it's working fine on this computer which has never had a local install so thank you very much for this.
Not exactly thorough testing I know...
I tried it on Vista (no SP installed), which never had Super installed and it worked perfectly.
i didnt check if it leaves anythign behind though...
I downloaded on XP everything worked good. Keep up the good work!!!
Hey just wanted to see if this is set for the newest version and what the status on registry entries left behind? If not can you please update launcher and I'll regshot.
Thanks :o)

I just realized this isn't on the test releases page. This is at dev test three so maybe you should mention this to John? Or is it not there because its just a launcher...
Its not there because its just a launcher.

well, this seems to work fine on my windows2000
how would one update the SUPER program without having to install it (eeeewww registry) on the host computer?
"No one man can terrorize a whole nation unless we are all his accomplices." - Edward R. Murrow
How can I use this launcher? I've installed it in a new folder, then i copied all the folders and files located in C:\Program\erightsoft\Super to SUPERPortable\App\eRightSoft\SUPER but when I try to launch SuperPortable.exe nothing happens, only the splash screen is showed to me...
Well, i think im gonna write a launcher in autohotkey, cause I know how to do more things with that then nsis, but i might just keep the installer in NSIS, so I will try my best to get an update out really soon

Well this does not leave any personal registry behind, but my new script will delete a lot of entries it makes, i am still going through the registry looking for others that it creates so I can add it to the list to be delete, but only if there is not a local install. So just as long as you install everything to the "App" directory then you should be fine on registry, doing this will allow the script to delete the registry values because if "C:\Program Files\eRightSoft\SUPER" exists then it will not delete any registry values or mess with any settings of SUPER

New update, Please read above for details, I hope this fix's many of your problems with the previous script, as this does more than the other one. Please report back any problems you have with it, I have only tested this out a few times but I need more testers to confirm that it works.
Edit: I discovered a pretty big bug, so i am correcting this and will reupload when done
Edit2: Bug fixed, please enjoy this

Hey Nathan

EDIT: Direct download link not working.

Hi Nathan
I had the following error message when I tried to run - http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=qgtmjd1izyz&thumb=5
Before running I uninstalled SUPER with Revo Uninstaller to removed the traces. First ran the launcher without reinstalling SUPER. Splash then nothing. Looked in the task manager and no processes. Downloaded and installed SUPER doing the default install and only unchecking the shortcuts (Which it made anyway). Ran the launcher and got this error message.
PortableApps.com Advocate
Thats strange, ill look into this, but just as long as you install super, then exit the installer, then Open SUPERPortable, it should copy the necessary files over for you SUPERPortable, make sure though that if you are gonna do default install that you delete the settings folder in the data directory. Cause if not the script will see that the ini exists and then just try to run super, so try this and tell me if you still get that error, i will do several checks on my script to see if there is something that has a flaw. Can someone else confirm this? please test out and tell me if you have the same problem.
Edit: Wait I just reread you comment, This script doesnt monitor an installation, but it could if I put more time into it, but anyways, install super, then while it is still installed, run SuperPortable.exe, Only once you see that you have SUPER in your App folder (Its like 30MB total), once you notice you do then run SUPERPortable, then close the Main SUPER window that comes up (Exit the APP), when you do that, it will copy over other files that it needs. Then after that just delete SUPER from your computer, and you should have no problems with SUPERPortable after that. Hope this was what the problem was.

I'm having problems installing SUPERportable
I downloaded and installed SUPER on my home computer
Then I downloaded and installed SUPERportable on my usb
then i copied the erightsoft folder to the app folder on my usb
when i executed superportable while my usb was attached to my home computer it worked
So i then unplugged my usb and unistalled SUPER on my home computer
then I executed SUPERportable on my usb when it was attached to my work computer and I got a splash screen then nothing and their were no SUPER related process running from what I could tell. Also their were no files in my settings folder
Just as long as you safely removed your usb it should work. I believe that I wrote the script so if you just execute it, it will automatically download or copy over the erightsoft folder. But if you could try again and make sure that once you close SUPER, that it copies files over to the Data folder. If this still doesnt work ill look at the scrip and see if there is an error on my part.
Edit: Since you said you tried at work, it might not let you run this unless you are an admin. Currently I do not know any fix around this problem but if i could find a way to redirect super to look in the data folder for the files it needs then I would but I think it didnt run because you werent an admin.

Yeah I think its probably because I'm not admin too. Do you think theirs any way around this?
Any news with Super? The new Live Installers should make coding this a lot easier.

I like ur launcher and really like the new way the program works but could u maybe make sure the launcher creates the folder "OutPut" instead of coping it over? because i had 500 Mb of stuff in the output folder and suddenly the whole output folder got copied to my USB (I didnt expect the content of the output folder to be copied over as well, i thought it would be a blank folder then called "OutPut") thx
K ill see what I can do. I'm pretty sure also that this program does not work on computers that do not have admin access so I might also add something in there that will prevent this from running unless admin access is found. I know for instance i tried running this on a non-admin computer and then it does nothing so it would probably be better if a pop-up came up allowing the user to go along with running it to see if it will work or for them not to so they wont waste time trying to see if it will come up. Anyone who is reading this let me know what you think about this, whether I should do it or not. Also I will try to get something in here that can automatically download SUPER instead of the user having to navigate through their website so it will be more user friendly.

i think a message that admin access is needed would indeed be very helpful
If this app Requires Admin privileges to Run it should, without question, be Clearly indicated at the Start of the Topic.
Folks expect that the apps they find at this site will run as an Ordinary user or an Admin without difficulties, if that is not the case it must be made clear up front.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
I followed all the install instructions & got a successful install. It ran fine from the USB drive so I uninstalled the one from the C: drive. After that, it ran fine from the USB drive. . .once. I can only get it to work again by reinstalling it on C: and recopying to my USB. This has happened about three times now; it will only run alone one time: bizarre. I'm running an XPP SP3 box w/ admin priveledges. Any ideas?

check the data directory. Make sure hidden files option is unchecked under folder options and let me know if there are files in the Data\settings folder. Im pretty sure I set it to copy them over from the computer to there and then back again when u need them and then back when it closes. Ill take a look at the script this weekend and see if I find anything that might cause your problem.

I'm not sure if other people are having the same problem but I only seem to be able to run Super once without deleting the data folder - I believe it has something to do with aac_parser.ax as I get a "bad image" message saying basically that C:\windows\system32\aac_parser.ax is not designed to run on windows or contains an error.
I am using windows vista [I know :(]
Is there anyway to suppress the error or add a delete data folder and restart to your launcher script.
p.s. I am using super v2010.build38
After some testing it seems when first run SUPERPortable.ini is created and then closes down (nothing happens, program does not start) second time when run SUPERPortable.ini is deleted and when I close super a file with an extension .ax is left i.e. aac_parser.ax. (In fact the ax file seems to be the ini file since once I renamed the extention to txt it contained the same information.)
I'm not sure if this helps anyone with the skills to fix this.
p.s. By the way why is the ini file created in the data folder? Usually with portable apps this is placed in the same folder as the launcher if it is being used.
There are three .ax files in the Data/settings folder.
