How do you use bcc in Thunderbird. I've searched the support page and the forum but have not found any information.

Just start a new message and click where it says "To:" to switch to CC or BCC.
Personally, I recommend against BCC as it increases the risk of winding up in the Junk Mail folder.

I was sure there was a way, but I was looking in the address book.
If the junk mail folder is going to be a problem what do you do to forward messages to a small group without spreading email addresses. I think it looks bad and I don't like my address being included in a list at the top of an email.
And therein lies the glitch,
Personally I prefer to use bcc: when sending the same message to multiple people for the same reasons as you. Even if you trust everyone in a CC: their mail account could get compromised and then you are screwed.
In fact I tell people that if they send me mail in a CC: with more than 3 people on it, I WILL BLOCK THEM, and ask them to stop sending me mail.
I've never had a problem with sending mail with BCC: but I've never done it with more that 5 people.
It might be different with 30,60,or 90, I don't know.
The only solution would seem to be to send the messages individually

Hopefully, it will be something that's portable, works with Thunderbird, and doesn't entail the use of an anonymizing site

with many Bcc's? For work, using tbp, I send about 400 bcc'ed emails every other week or so. I used to be able to do about 1k emails, but then my university did something that made it not work, I get a reply about "too many emails blahblah." Luckily the limit is only around 400, so it works out that I split those emails into two separate emails.
I know that it doesn't get blocked on the other end, as I get replies back from at least one of all various servers who get the emails.
Of course, nothing prevents someone from making those filters to block them. It's a good idea if you want to block spam, but I've been more about blocking individuals more than catagories from my email.

At work, and with the volunteer orgs I help out with, I've been slowly teaching them the joys and courtesy that a bcc email is to everyone in the groups.
Which I would think that it actually helps cut down my spam since pseudo-random folks who I know only tangentially don't bug me with stuff.
