Is there a plug-in or feature in existence where I can see how many characters are in the message I'm composing?
They could go so far as to show total chars, and just the chars on the current line (with position) as well. But that may be wishful thinking.
The reason I'm wanting this is that I often use Tbird to send text messages to cell phones. I want to keep under the character limit.
How do you send text messages to a cell phone using TBP? I have always wondered about this and never figured it out.
Thanks!
Most carriers have an email address pattern which lets you send messages from normal email accounts to wireless phones. The carrier's system converts the email to an SMS message for you.
Usually delivery is very quick, but sometimes takes a few minutes. And I have had cases where the messages were not delivered till hours later. But generally it works fine.
Usually the person can reply back and the response comes right to your email address.
If a person's cell phone number was (202) 555-1234, here is what their email address would be for some of the carriers I've had experience with. For those I don't have there, you may be able to find via Google.
Alltel:
2025551234@message.alltel.com
AT&T:
2025551234@txt.att.net
Verizon:
2025551234@vtext.com
Note that usually long messages are either truncated or split into multiple messages. So do your friend a favor and make sure to remove non-essential text (like footers).
And of course, they'll get charged any applicable text messaging rates.
Thanks!
