Getting Portable Apps on my Sansa 1GB MP3 Player

When I go to install Portable Apps on my device, the device is not recognized as something I can save to.

Is this a compatability issue, or am I setting things up wrong?

My drive shows up in My Computer\Sansa Clip 1GB

Please Help.

Brian

Drive Letter

You need to have a drive letter to be able to use portable apps (or most any software usually). Annoyingly, Sansas are configured not to show up as normal drives in Windows. Not sure if you can fix that.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Call Sansa and get the directions to use a Clip as a memory device, that's what I had to do with my Sansa View.
BTW, here are the directions for the View (I don't know if the Clip is the same):
Turn on, slide hold to lock position, and then press and hold left side of wheel while plugging in cable, until recognized by computer.

Like Tim

I don't know if this helps, but I have a RCA mp3 player. In the settings, there is a setting called protocol. It has two settings - MTP and MSC. I can't remember which one does what, but with one, it recognizes my player as a plain old mp3 player. Change it to the other and it turns it into a portable storage device with it's own drive letter. Either way, it still allows me to upload music and listen to my mp3's, but use it as a flash drive, if I wish.

i know

i had a sansa and in the settings there is a setting to change back and forth between MTP and MSC cant remeber witch one you want but i know there are only two and it will have a dot next two the one you are using
WARNING
1. when you change over back up all data this changes the way your device looks at its memory and it wont display the files that you have on there
2. when you do this you expose some critical files and if you somehow corrupt those file it WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE

Yeah

I forgot about that. It didn't delete any settings, but I lost some mp3's when I did this.

Just to clarify, my idea does

Just to clarify, my idea does not require changing any settings and only applies to the current connection. It allows you to drag-n-drop files in both directions using standard Windows Explorer, Konqueror, or any other file manager. No data will be affected, according to SanDisk support.

I've done that but ...

I never had to slide the locking mechanism on it. I just plugged it in, opened up the drive (it usually is called "Sansa" and click on it, click on Internal Memory, then it lists all the music that I have on the PC. I click and drag music files on or off it routinely, and it picks it up or deletes from the sansa clip.

I've never tried though putting PAM on it. I really don't want to risk it not working as a music player.
