I got a problem, that since 3.0Beta2, my portable Firefox is crashing all the time. Mostly when > 5 Tabs are open and loading. PFF3 final doesn't change anything.
I'm using about 20 Addons, some of them with compatibility override. I guess that is the problem.
My question: how can i find the add-ons that cause this problem? Is there a log-file i can consult? Or do analyzing-tools exist?
(Sure, disable one after another is one way, but perhaps there is an easier/faster solution?)

Firefox went through major internal changes from 2.0 to 3.0 so you shouldn't use old extensions with it. All the big extensions have been updated already. If you're using one of the lesser ones, you could bug the author for an update or individually try them by setting the maxversion in the install.rdf higher.
But you shouldn't just turn compatibility checking off and use a bunch of old extensions. You're just asking for crashes, data loss, etc.

Bah! Incompatible extensions don't cause crashes (trust me, you know how many extensions I use). I've gone through two major transitions (1.5 -> 2.0 and now 2.0 -> 3.0) and they either flat out don't work at all or cause weird graphical problems (and sometimes both). I think Firefox is too robust to be taken down by extensions written for old versions of Gecko. For the less experienced user or the non-techie, however, your advice is good nonetheless.

What's characteristical for my crashes: when i restore the tabs after the crash (press "restart" then "restore previous session"), its like 85% sure, that it will crash again.

Use the --safe-mode switch. Then you can be absolutely sure it's not the fault of an addon or two. If safe mode isn't giving you problems, try disabling extensions one-by-one starting with those you most suspect. It could also be an extension conflict (e.g. Menu Editor and Add Bookmark Here don't play well together; see link below).

Seams like you're using Tab Mix Plus Session Manager. A while ago I notice that some pages always crash FF after restoring session. Maybe there's something to do with some bad script. Try the addon NoScript.

It's very interesting that you are trying to restore a session and which causes a
crash to occur. I have seen this before, in Firefox 2.014 where the session (assuming you are using Session manger extension) contained a page /tab that has some type bad java-script, malicious code or a drive by download.
You should try deleting that session completely in safe mode which has been mentioned in other posts here. What I do is save sessions daily so that I can go back in time, if I should run into a bad website which brings down Firefox.
Usual, when this happens the whole browser will lock down, and the only way to solve the problem is to hit the "big red X button " or CRT/ALT/DELETE and then manual shut down the browser.

It was only an example (and the crash is not triggered by what you are doing anyway).

Unless you are familiar with Gecko's inner workings and have the source code of your add-ons handy, I doubt it. You can check the Error Console for clues, I suppose.

Hi,
I tried to find the one extension (out of 26) which should be responsible for my crashes, but I had no luck. That was so frustrating...
Then, in an other forum I found the hint, that it could not only be the extensions, but the plugins, too! Some people experienced problems with the flash-plugin.
I got some problems with updating the flash-plugin in FFP, so I installed the flashblock extension. Now I only run the flash-applets I want. The result: no crashes anymore!!!
To other people with crashing Firefoxes: I can recommand to try flashblock extension.
