First of all please tell me if this tutorial is good for migrating from Firefox 3.0 to Portable?
If this tutorial is good then
Please tell me which profile files are considered 'cache files'?
The reason: Tutorial on migrating FF settings to Portable Firefox
If you're using a local copy of Firefox, you may wish to just copy your local Firefox settings right into Firefox Portable. Your local Firefox profile is usually installed in C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.???\ Just copy the contents of that folder (except the cache directories) to the FirefoxPortable\Data\profile directory. Then, and this is important, delete the file FirefoxPortableSettings.ini within the FirefoxPortable\Data\settings directory, if there is one. When you start Firefox Portable for the first time, it's recommended that you turn off disk cache, password saving and history if you're using a flash-based portable device. You can set all of these within the Privacy tab of the Firefox Options window. Sometimes, certain profiles will cause the launcher to fail or hang. It's best to give it a few minutes to see if it's just checking compatiblity and adjusting the locations of the extensions before giving up on it. If it fails, it is usually due to an incompatible extension.
Thanks
PS: So far I haven't had anything work and I'm no FF newbie
OK, I've exported the bookmarks to the desktop as an html file and from there I imported to Portable 3.
However, I use a system where I have 20 folders on my bookmark toolbar and I've yet to get them displayed on the toolbar.
Any idea?
When I imported my FF2 bookmarks into FF3 it created a new folder titled "Bookmarks Toolbar" as opposed to putting the bookmarks into the actual FF3 Bookmarks Toolbar folder.
Ensure that the bookmarks you want are in the actual Bookmarks Toolbar and not just in a normal folder titled Bookarks Toolbar.
Mine did the same and it was a touch confusing at first as I was trying to move my bookmarks en mass but I finally broke down and moved them up to the toolbar one at a time.
I installed my extensions and tweaks from scratch and everything went well. So far I'm happy with portable Fox and I intend on using it for my browser even when using my computers. With FoxMarks for syncing I should be in great shape as long as I'm careful to not save any important passwords.
Thanks everyone
i recommend FEBE
just search for it at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox
That looks interesting especially couple with Cleo which will give me a one -stop drop-in backup, but I need to repackage for 3.0. I can do it by edit but I usually use Nightly Tester and I'm having trouble getting Nightly Tester to install in Portable, is there an issue?
Thanks
OK, I got it, I had to load from the site as it wouldn't work off the downloaded xpi but it worked and that's what counts.
