Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have PFF in a shared folder, I also have two user accounts mine and my wifes, she connects to my pc via RDP and logs in with her user account.
I would like her to use the same PFF which is in the shared folder. The problem is the thie little chestnut 'parent.lock'. If I am browsing and she connects and wants to browse I keep gettig 'firefox is already running' etc.
I have tried 'AllowMultipleInstances' in the .ini file but this does not allow her to run it aswell as myself.
Please can someone shed some light on how I could go about sharing a single profile. Maybe there is a way I can change where the location (to her windows profile) of the 'parent.lock'.
Any ideas?

Well, considering the overwhelming replies to my post I take it this cannot be done.
What a shame. I just started using Firefox thinking I would finally take the plunge and give it a shot after using IE for so long.
If this cannot be done it will have to be IE until this is added...
Two instances of Firefox cannot share a profile. Why do you think the lockfile exists in the first place? Just for the hell of it? Since the profile is constantly being written to and read from during a Firefox session, writes would have to be synchronized, which is nearly impossible across user accounts let alone across computers--which would be the case if she were accessing PFF across the network and you, locally. It would be like you trying to type something intelligible while someone else was trying to type something else on the same keyboard. It wouldn't work.
Also, please wait more than a day to bump a post (let's say, 3 days minimum?) and don't be so rude when you do. You came off like a jerk in that last post ("given the overwhelming response..."--at least you didn't italicize "overwhelming response"). We're not at everyone's beck and call, okay?
Edit: In addition, I hardly see how this is a deal-breaker. IE doesn't let multiple users share a common set of preferences/history/cache, either.

Seriously, if you want to expose yourself to all the security holes IE has, and give up all the extendable, skinnable goodness that is Firefox, well... no one is stopping you...

Or maybe if I had even an inch of a reply from someone I wouldn't have written such a comment? I'm sure there are thousands of people visiting this site every hour someone could have stopped by and said, 'yay' or 'ney'.
No hard feelings, I still love you though.
And trust me If IE had the extention support Firefox has I would be back in the blink of an eye. I've never had a problem with IE been using it for years.
Anyway, I'm giving firefox a wirl because I thought I wouldn't disrespect if I hadn't at least given it a good few months of work and it's very good so far except for my little, solvable (I'm sure) problem, all would be good.

Excellent, finally a reply. 12 hours in this day and age waiting for a reply is long enough I reckon. However, this is just my opinion and we all know everyone has an opnion except mine are just better.
Now back to the subject at hand.
Thank you for the information and now that you mention it using the same profile wouldn't be a good idea, I don't want to share history/cache etc (she may see all the p*rn I've been viewing ;)) and I can see the point of the lock file so I will rephrase my question.
Take Two:
sharing the same extentions directory and bookmarks file, the reasons are pretty much the same as my first post.
Is it possible to have two profiles

Actually... I've wondered about something similar...
Can you have multiple profiles on 1 user account? I glanced through FF's help file and saw nothing on profiles. I was wondering because it would be nice if I could set up different profiles for different uses, i.e. a prof for school, one for news, one for media, etc...
This way I wouldn't have to load up ALL of my extensions for a purpose where only a few were needed, and thus increase speed. I could use something similar for TB, to use one for school related mail accounts, one for my personal accounts, etc...
I know it sounds like a hassle to some, but I'm a tad OC, and this would give me a sense of control in the chaos of my computer, heheh! I mean, If I feel a defrag didn't do as good enough job packing files, I'll rerun it, and if that still doesn't do it, I've been known to wipe. (My freinds and family think I'm crazy. Same story with a cluttered registry)
What, I know, I'm crazy...

This is impossible and IE can't do this, either. I'll say it again: writes to the profile, bookmarks, extension registry, etc. would have to be synchronized across user accounts, which is pretty much impossible. Don't ever expect any program to be able to do this reliably, let alone Firefox.
Edit: Don't feel bad, I'm the same way. I usually skip the defragmentation step and go straight to the "wipe" step, though. Saves a lot of time. I've gotten to the point where I can get Windows and most of my applications up and running within two hours.

If you want multiple profiles in standard FF, all you have to do is run: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profilemanager, and create another profile. You can copy extensions etc. over to your taste. As for PFF, I'm just using the .ini for now. Still tweaking. I think I may have to modify the launcher to bring up the profile manager, not sure...

Lol I do the staright wipe sometimes, too, and I can get my apps back during install. Ahh, I love slipstreaming. Hehehe.
Also, unlike the OP, I'm wondering if a single user can have multiple profiles, but not to be used at the same time. I want different profiles for different tasks, to be used at different times, not simultaneously. I'm thinking When FF starts, a menu to ask which profile to use. I think I've seen a menu like this before, but not on my box. I'll give Ashes' suggestion a try.

If you want to choose every time, you've gotta make sure you uncheck "Don't ask at startup", or an option to that effect; it's a checkbox located near the bottom of the profile dialog. (Sorry, I have a few dowloads going, and PFF won't cooperate :D) If you just want to access a profile occasionally, just run the command string, and you'll be able to choose from there.
