I looked through a few pages of forum postings to see if anyone else needed help with this but didn't find anything, which makes me think I must be a real slow learner. Anyway, I've installed PFF3 on a thumbdrive and it launches just fine. But it doesn't show my fav-o-rite bookmarks, etc. I followed the instructions at https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#local_profile -- to wit: every darn thing present in my C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.???\ folder was copied to the FirefoxPortable\Data\profile directory. And I deleted the file FirefoxPortableSettings.ini within the FirefoxPortable\Data\settings directory. But all I get when I launch PFF3 is your generic "welcome to Firefox" first-time home page.
So my vote is that I did something wrong. Hints?
so is it only the home page thats not showing up or are your bookmarks not there?
give us a bit more detail
No bookmarks, nothing. It's like a clean install on a new machine.

you could try foxmarks it will sync your bookmarks to a server then you can download them back to firefox portable
you could use FEBE to save all your extensions back into a single .xpi
if you need addtional help with these two extensions email me at myemailislongerthanyours at Google MAIL
So wait -- either the instructions are incorrect or I didn't do them correctly. Are we sure that, if followed correctly, one will get the expected results? If so, since I'm not getting the expected results, then maybe we could figure out what I did wrong.

so my previous post is my work around
at lease as far as I can tell.
Cause I did the same thing and had the same problem.
What version was your local copy?
Mine had FF2 and I think maybe thats the problem but maybe I am wrong.
Does anyone know how firefox.exe checks if it has to do all the pre-upgrade work like checking for extension compatibility? Cause the first start after copying the profile went way too fast compared to the first start after I upgraded from FFP2.

@Simeon: My local copy of FF is 3.0 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0). The portable copy is whatever I downloaded yesterday -- can't launch it right now to check version because I have this local copy running.
@hunted hawk: Please don't think I didn't appreciate you taking to time to post workarounds! Thank you! But right now I feel like the guy who posts that the power windows on his car aren't working, and wants to get them to work like the owner's manual says they should. A suggestion about how to raise them manually is certainly welcome, but I'd like to get them to work as they are supposed to before I look to workaround.
