Looking for an Address Book plugin or extension.

Does anyone out there know of an extension or plug-in that would add the functionality of viewing and editing an address book file in Firefox portable or Sunbird portable? I think the Thunderbird address book is a .mab file.

I use Thunderbird for my e-mail client at home but using Thunderbird portable isn't really practical for me. I really didn't want to load Thunderbird portable just for the access to my address book.

I've tried several types of searches in Google and the addons site and have come up empty or with so many hits its just better to post a question. I have found extensions by accident that are not part of the addons site in the past. Thought that someone might know of one.

Thanks in advance all. . .

Stopgap until you get a real answer

Universal Viewer ( http://www.uvviewsoft.com/ ) will let you see your data. It appears that the abook.mab file is a form of XML and is plainly recorded in a text file.

I just took a shot at opening the file with a text editor (I use notepad++), and it is a straight text file with XML-type formatting. For a quick view or edit of an existing record, these types of apps look fine. I'm not sure about adding or deleting entries, however. I don't know if there are any embedded record counts or any entry numbering scheme in place.

My lunchtime searching found. . .

As a stop gap I DL Thunderbird Portable. I found on the Thunderbird knowledge base that you can start launch just the address book by using the command line option "-addressbook". This also works with the portable flavor. So I just set up the command in my PStart menu. The draw back I have a 26mb address book program.
