With FF2 I just used to grab my Bookmarks.html and drag it from one FF folder to the appropriate folder in my new FF folder, and there were my bookmarks, no need to do the messy importing thing. Well not so in FF3! It doesn't matter which Bookmarks.html I replace, my bookmarks never show up in my browser. Isn't there a way to do with FF3 what I used to do with FF2?

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
I fully understand how to use the bookmark import/export function, but that's not what I want to do. I simply want to drag my Bookmarks.html file from my FF2 folder into the appropriate folder (which one?) in FF3 to replace the FF3 bookmarks file with my old one from my FF2. Does that make sense?
I do not want to simply "import" my bookmarks, that just makes a mess.
Yes, it Is What You're Asking For in the sense that it will accomplish what you want, the transferring of your bookmarks.
I fully understand what you want to do,
It just doesn't work that way in FF3
The folder is
/profile
the file is Now:
places.sqlite
You can't just copy Bookmarks.html over anymore.
Does that make sense?
Sorry

I wonder who's "bright" idea that was?
and got the all the bookmarks, including the toolbar ones to load.
That's because Firefox 3 stores bookmarks in the places.sqlite file, along with your browsing history.
Presumably, if you disable browsing history in Tools→Options…→Privacy (or just Clear Private Data) all that would be left in the places.sqlite file when you exit Firefox would be your bookmarks.
Might be worth a shot copying that one file (realizing, of course, that you'd be blowing away any previous browsing history in the destination profile).
