having used THUNDERBIRD standard installation for almost two
years now, plenty of emails have accumulated, some folders
were created, and some adjustments were made to make it works
the way i thought it should. a few add-ons were added, too.
and once it did that, to my satisfaction, most things were just
'forgotten' - it worked the way i wanted it, most of the times.
now, for the next year, i will be on extended travel, and in
many places, i might not even have a laptop along.
the idea was to migrate whatever i can to a USB stick. on
FIREFOX this seems reasonably easy, but on THUNDERBIRD it seems
to be much more difficult.
naturally, as much as possible should be moved, accounts, mails,
addrss, folders, filters, settings, add-ons, spamfilter, whatever.
am i asking to much? is there a simple and safe way to do this?
maybe even a prog that could help?
the idea was to install THB PORTABLE also on the computer, then
do the migration from the fixed installation to the (almost)
portable one, and once everything was set, just copy that
portable setup onto a USB stick.
can anybody help here? anybody having done this, having the
experience? any hints are welcome.

just "install" the portable TB and procede with the following
https://portableapps.com/support/thunderbird_portable#local_profile .
And, as almost always - using the support pages will give you a quicker solution to the problem than waiting for someone to answer a real faq..
- if there are problems with the portable TB, come back and ask again..

wk, tks a lot. you mean this part?
>> Copying Your Local Thunderbird Settings
>> If you're using a local copy of Thunderbird, you may
>> wish to just copy your local Thunderbird settings ...
while i fully understand your comment ( ...using the support
pages will give you a quicker solution to the problem than
waiting for someone to answer ... ), do you know how it feels
having gone thru 100+ answers (incl the above) and at the end
know less then you did when you started?
my head is humming. some say its so easy, other give you a dozend
of caveats, ifs and buts. does one copy the funnily named folder
(like: js8itfretb.default) too, or just its contents? does one have to
clean out or prepare his folder system? 20 diff opinions.
so while i will now go ahead (tmrrw), if anybody with experience
has any REAL suggestion of what the pitfalls could be, shoot.
if not, i will (happily ?) report back tmrrw.

and yes I meant the passage above. To make it clear.. I don´t mean any tb support pages but of course the app support linked to on top of the portableapps pages. -If you don´t find a solution here go to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder and they´ll explane all files within the tb profile
..and , of course, to know where you can find the simple trustworthy answer is always better than looking for the needle within the haystack. So, enjoy portable tb.. one more hint: better copy over the whole profile contents and delete all unneeded after first start from within the tbp gui
