I've posted a quick pre-release of the upcoming version of Portable FileZilla. It adds in the an automatic backup-restore to ease upgrades. It also allows you to unzip Portable FileZilla directly over an existing installation. Please give it a try... specifically, testing that filezilla.xml is created from one of the backups in the settings directory if it doesn't exist... and that it is created from filezilla.xml.default if no backups exist.
Any comments or questions can be dropped right in this thread.
Will this version save the connection settings?
That seems to be the problem I keep having with the upgrades. I copy over the filezilla.xml to the new version, but that does not seem to contain the connection settings. I end up with having to input it every time I upgrade.

If so, they're always save within the XML file unless you are on a PC that has a specific FileZilla setting in the registry.

I'll let you know because I must be doing it wrong. Three previous upgrades did not show the site settings, when I coppied the XML file over.

I've replaced my old installation of Portable FileZilla with 2.2.24a. In order to maintain my old settings, I copied FileZilla.xml from the application directory in my old installation to the new one and the settings stayed persistent. I should've just replaced the files, as you suggested, but oh well.

Backup your XML file and re-unzip 2.2.24a over your current copy of it. That simulates an upgrade, too.
