Wallpaper swapper

Well I downloaded the new version of Portable apps menu and it talks about "Wallpaper Swapper" and I saved a bmp file in pictures but I think I am missing something since nothing has changed and the search is slightly confusing me, anyone willing to help me?

Cheers DF

you are right

The documentation on the Suite isnt very good.

The info you need is on the News page of the 1.1 Platform Release: https://portableapps.com/news/2008-05-22_-_platform_and_suite_1.1

There is says:
Wallpaper Swapper - The wallpaper swapper is built right into the platform so there's no need to add an extra app. Just place a file called portableapps_wallpaper.bmp in your Documents\Pictures on your drive and the platform will swap it for the Windows background of the machine your on and swap it back when you're done.

Check the link for all the other great new features.

On Start

If you add or change the BMP you have to close and then reopen the Platform. Does that do it for you?

Steps

Ok, just to be sure we're all on the same page.

1. Close the PortableApps.com Platform
2. Save the wallpaper you want to use to a standard BMP file (Windows, RGB... no RLE encoding or anything odd)
3. Name the BMP file: portableapps_wallpaper.bmp
4. Assuming you have the platform installed to the root of your device (X:\PortableApps and X:\Documents), copy the BMP to X:\Documents\Pictures
5. Start the PortableApps.com Platform and your wallpaper should change

Note that this will not work if you have that odd Internet Explorer web desktop thing enabled since it blocks your background.

John:

Could you put that on the Suite's Support page along with the whole features list? Cause as I said above the features are only mentioned in the announcement.

Update

I've updated the Suite/Platform homepage and support page to include this information.

Still No Go

I followed your directions but it still didn't work. I finally realized that I am using Mod 30, would that keep it from working?

Thanks

I hope that the future menu will have the features of the Mod 30. I will wait until then. Again, thanks.
