Older Versions - we still use 'em!

I notice that you provide a link to 3 older versions of Firefox Portable for use by folks using older equipment, and for diagnostics.
Considering there is a lot of interest in Portable T-bird 1.5.0.14, and almost no place to find it, how about some old version links here?

I love FileHippo's way of posting the very latest, and still making every past version available. PortableApps would get a lot more following if you did the same.

Not Really

There's not really interest in older versions of Thunderbird. I think this is the only time anyone has brought it up in months. Thunderbird 1.5 is discontinued and unsupported and most likely has security vulnerabilities. 2.0 is the current release and all users should upgrade.

The reason we still link to the much older Firefox releases was mainly for web developers to test web pages. No one should be using Firefox 1.0 or 1.5 as their actual browser. It would be irresponsible. In fact, usage of Firefox 1.0 and 1.5 is low enough that we'll probably be removing their links in the near future as there's not much reason to test websites on them anymore.

and

you can get all the old versions on www.sf.net. For example Thunderbird is here.

Old Ware ?

You can go to:

http://www.oldware.org/software.php?swid=205

to find old versions. I checked, and Mozilla Thunderbird has 21 versions available.

And yet......

SourceForge has old versions way back to 2.0.0.9... not exactly an archive.

Maybe keeping up with the versions is what most folks do, but I have companies running W98 as their most modern version, and still have one real estate company on W311wg. Not much chance of a security leak there, and not much to get.

Big Difference

There's a big difference here, though. We're talking about point releases of open software that are released for free. Windows 98 is indicative of older hardware or lacking the funds to upgrade. With something like Thunderbird, there is no reason to be using 1.5 when 2.0 is a simple, free upgrade.

The older Thunderbird and Firefox releases are also on SF but were originally under separate projects:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/portabletbird
http://sourceforge.net/projects/portablefirefox

But please don't go using them as your primary browser or email client.

I'm Still Using 1.5 for two reasons....

1. No Auto Copy working extension, when you create your own invoices for eBay, that comes in very handy when pulling the shipping addresses off of paypal receipts and other emails.

2. The search toolbar is missing in 2.0, you can add it with an extension, but when you use the drop down menu for message "View", it forces you to have to "mouse over" to click another menu instead of having everything on one like in 1.5. I'm talking about the menu that has your own tags as well as "unread", "last 5 days", "people I know", etc. Makes no sense to have to initiate another context menu by having to click "tags" or "custom views" when there is plenty of room for everything on one menu like in 1.5.

Maybe a little nit-picky, but when you deal with a lot of email, its nice to have the features that you are used to. Also, is the Slideshow ext available for 2.0?
