Trouble switching clamwin between write-protected and open modes...

Greetings, I am setting up Clamwin to incorporate a pre-scan in my work-flow. I have a write-protection lock on my USB (using a SD card with hardware write-protection). Heres the thought:

1) Plug in the locked device
2) Run clamwin to scan the programs in memory
3) Asses risk and walk away, or
4) Unplug, unlock, unencrypt, and go about my business.

So, I need Clamwin to work in both modes (write protected, and open) so that I can keep DB up to date, etc.

I followed the posted instructions for running off a CD, "Move the ClamWin.conf file from the ClamWinPortable\Data\settings directory to the ClamWinPortable\App\clamwin directory. Then burn the whole ClamWinPortable directory to CD." substituting "burn CD" for lock device...

What I don't understand, is why this move? And, do I need to move it back to run it in unlocked mode? Don't I need to change the ...\..\ directory structure to reflect the move?

Currently, when I run clamwin in write-protected mode, I am promted to set up the file locations each time. Not a big hassel, but not convenient.

Cheers.

(Sidebar: it would also be helpful to have the standard portable apps clamwin.conf settings posted somewhere...)

ClamWin behaves differently on USB when write-protected

I loaded PortableApps and ClamWin on my Kanguru USB that has a write protect lock switch. When in normal read/write mode ClamWin works fine. When in write protected lock mode then I get an error prompt from ClamWin and in window disables the scan menu items and buttons, so that virus scan is not possible.

Should I be doing something different?

Other programs like AbiWord works correctly in either mode.

Thank you.

ClamWin is really made to run in one or the other, not switch back and forth. The read-only mode only works in a standard directory layout and with no changes to the clamwin.conf. There is a default in ClamWinPortable\App\DefaultData.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
