portable vidalia needed

For the anonymous surfing by using portable apps, torpark can be used. But to me, it seems that
independent portable firefox + independent portable vidalia is better for convenient updating of each
apps.

Hope have a portable version of vidalia. Thanx!

I'm going to guess

that this is it. Comes bundled with Tor & Privoxy.

"Vidalia is a cross-platform controller GUI for Tor, built using the Qt framework. Vidalia runs on any platform supported by Qt 4.1, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux or other Unix variants using the X11 window system.

Vidalia allows you to start and stop Tor, view the status of Tor at a glance, and monitor Tor's bandwidth usage. Vidalia also makes it easy to contribute to the Tor network by helping you setup a Tor server, if you wish."

Build your own bundle instructions here. NSIS script here, which states "Keep Vidalia portable by remembering where Tor gets installed in vidalia.conf..

Hope this helps. Wink

agreed

a portable Tor, Privoxy and Vidalia would be greatly appreciated. If i knew crap about this, i'd take it up myself.

I like TorPark, but it's really really slow to start. It'd be nice to route other apps through the Tor network in a portable way.

As it stands right now, on a certain machine i shouldn't be surfing on or chatting, i used True Crypt to create a hidden volume on the hard-drive and installed it there and it just shows up as a windows wallpaper. Still able to be found, but unlikely.

In many countries (digital) expression is still under repression. I think that a portable version of vidalia will improve digital freedom.

Torbase (Portable Tor Distribution with Tor and Privoxy)

Although Torbase is not a portable Vidalia distribution, it may fit your needs as a portable Tor distribution.

Torbase (as its name implies), was created as a personal project to act as a portable Tor base layer for individual applications such as Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird to access, in cases where a package such as Torpark may not be the optimal solution. For transparency, integrity, and simplicity, Torbase is built around the standard distributions of Tor and Privoxy -- their program files have not been modified or compressed; only configuration files have been edited for use. Torbase may also function as a self-contained `portable' distribution for use in encrypted Truecrypt containers, etc.

This is the first public release of Torbase (after some private use), and as such, I have not decided upon hosting, etc. Please read the readme file for more details -- the file should be informative. For the time being, Torbase may be downloaded from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4ARJ4ZA4. As the site is a public hosting site, it is preferable that the file hashes of the download (torbase_alpha.exe) be verified. The MD5 hash is deb5c5931fe0bc1d9b500804a5d70fd6 and the SHA1 hash is 5c3b641973b8382eaeb8e43501f66eef42cc389e.

To use, simply run the 7zip self-extracting executable and run torbase.exe in the extracted folder.

When running Torbase, Tor may be accessed directly by using 127.0.0.1 and port 9050 or through Privoxy by using 127.0.0.1 and port 8118.

To terminate Torbase (and Tor along with Privoxy), simply respond to the dialog (by clicking OK).

Torbase appears to be stable has been tested with Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird. Tor and Privoxy in the distribution appear to behave normally.

Torbase was created using the NSIS scripting language and utilizes the Torpark source code as a basis for development.

Please remember that Torbase, at the moment, is alpha software and also note that Torbase is released as-is, without any warranty of any kind.

Although I am looking into adding Vidalia, please let me know if there are any compelling features -- it appears that Torbase may be a reasonable substitute, neglecting the bandwidth monitor, which may not be significant for a portable distribution.

Please feel free to email about feedback and problems, but do use a descriptive subject line.

Portable Vidalia

I made a portable vidalia for myself. I'm uploading it now.

EDIT: Nevermind. My site's FTP server is being stupid. I'll upload it later.

Portable Vidalia

So did you manage to upload this anywhere? having a self contained Vidalia would be much nicer than the batch files I am currently trying to use which leaves command prompts open.

Latest Vidalia turned Portable

I've hacked and edited the latest version of the stable Vidalia/Tor/Privoxy bundle to work portably. It really just requires extracting the install files and then changing some settings and using some commandlines. If anyone would like it, just give me a place to upload it. Actually how do I get PortableApps to host it?

I'd like to try out what you have.

Can you send it to me?

Thanks,
