A dummy question.
I got a new vista machine today. The portables apps (firefox, thunderbird et al) all work, but one important part has a problem. I got an error message that says something like
Could not initialize the browser's security component. The most likely problem is your brower's profile directory. ....
With Firefox, I can browse some sites, but I can't log on to any sites that require userid or passwords. With Thunderbird, it has the same error message and then it just sits there spinning its wheels.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks

Ok. I finally figured it out. I have to change the user permission for the profile folder to rw.

I have the some problem dp89 had; this message shows up in TB and firefox portable.
Can anyone explain what he means when he writes about the chabge in user permission; is it in windows or in the apps menus?
Thanks
As dp98 said, you need to change the profile folder permissions to rw. But what does this mean?
I means that the profile folder is read only for you (this is an usual problem in Vista, even more if your flash drive is formatted as NTFS).
What you have to do is to give write permissions to yourself on the folder
[FirefoxPortableInstallFolder]\Data\profile
. Normally I think it is possible to:If that does not work, then you need to use the command line... and about that I need to search as I don't remember how...
Thank you for the answer; it worked perfectly!!
