Firefox 3 Portable consistent loading problem

I use Portable Apps from an 80GB USB drive that goes with me wherever I go.

On PCs that have Firefox installed that are under my control they have been upgraded by installing Firefox 3.0.

I have downloaded Firefox_Portable_3.0_en-us.paf.exe to my USB drive and installed it via the Options|Install a New App of the PortableApps menu system.

Firefox 3.0 seems to run correctly some of the time on some of the PCs, however sometimes it fails to load and I send the error report via the dialog presented. To overcome this I try a reinstall of the above download which frequently resolves the problem. That said, sometime the problem is simply not resolved on that PC and I am unable, at this stage, to pinpoint specific reasons that cause the application to start to work again.

So far as I am aware, the desktop installation of Firefox is not used (but IE7 is used) and I guess that it (Firefox 3.0 desktop installation could be uninstalled.

The only other unusual characteristic is that I use TrueCrypt 5.1a on my USB Drive.

If anyone can offer an explanation/solution then I would be much obliged

There certainly seems to be an issue or two

Being rhetorical and replying to my own post I have rationalized the issue by using only two PCs. My work PC has Windows XP Pro fully patched and I'm using my Windows Media PC notebook at home.

The removable storage is always assigned as Drive Z.

As I move from machine to machine Firefox 3 never loads on the changed machine. I have to reinstall it (the paf file is on my portable drive).

Firefox Version 2X was configured always to save the session and always asked if I wanted to load the saved session. Version 3X has not been reconfigured by me in that respect but never offers to restore the session (this may be a feature change).

The main issue (even though it only takes moments to sort out) is that I must reinstall Firefox 3 portable as I move from one machine to the other so it is slightly less portable, slightly more a reinstall.

Firefox is not an installed browser on either machine.

Similar problem after upgrade to FF3

I had exactly the same thing happen to me and I have had to delete the installation of FF3 and go back to FF2. Any ideas? There are no local copies of Firefox on the PCs that I am using at work. Many thanks.
