Grouping Programs and Rename Them

Portable app menu is very fast access to programs but when apps are more than 20, find an app is very difficult.

If we can group programs into sections like Games, Multimedia or other categories finding them made easy.

Also all programs have English name and they can not have another name in other languages, if we can change name of them to another language [App names in menu] we can find them easily.

Was just thinking...

...the same, I also would like to be able to rename the shortcut
in the menu... almost everything is named "Appname Portable" and
sometimes I want to change the whole thing, is it possible?

Mod

So that's your solution: a mod:
http://ptc.kain-planet.de/details.php?file=283

Yes, it sounds a little geeky to use a mod, but it's very stable and there are many features you want. Just copy the content of the zip into your portableapps-folder.

Then there's a right-click menu for the apps where you can
- add categories
- rename apps
- many more

Just check it out!

Life is crunchy, anywhere

Anyone have an idea when the latest version, MOD R33 I believe, will be available? It supposedly will include the eject button. Grouping is a definite must!!!

It´s already r34

-> http://usb.smithtech.us/projects/downloads/PortableAppsMenuMod34.zip
and later on on http://ptc.kain-planet.de/files.php?cat=9
The PTC theme in R34 download has got an eject button, but you can create it yourself by editing the theme.ini of your theme...(that´s why we are at R34 -> custom buttons or images with an OnClick command)just have a look at the PTC theme.ini or ask for more

Help....

I back-up the original PortableAppsMenu folder and then copy the PortableAppsMenuMod31_PaTChedV3 folder to PortableApps folder and rename it PortableAppsMenu.

Whew.

When I clicked StartPortableApps.exe, I got a message "The PortableAppsMenu.exe file is not a valid PortableApps.com release and cannot be launched"

Help?

right

the new PortableAppsStart.exe doesn´t launch the Mods,
so you´ll have to change Autorun.inf path to the mod like:

 Open=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenuMod31_PaTChedV3\PortableAppsMenu.exe

or create a batch file

 Start .\..\..\..\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenuMod31_PaTChedV3\PortableAppsMenu.exe

convert it with bat2exe and put it on the root of your drive

not really, this is why we

not really, this is why we have create a patched version (change the version number ;-)), the starter checks only the version number of the PortableAppsMenu.exe (in the new version 1.1) but all mods are based on 1.0 this is why the mod doesn't launch.

you´re right with the PaTChed version for R31,

but we´re at least at R33,there´s a small bug with Fonts size in R34, and those aren´t patched, so you´ll have to create an alternative starter. If he used it only for testing and backed up his original PAM, he should have left it there and copied the patch folder contents over it or he should have used it side by side (-> then he needs an alternative way of starting it, same with Mod > R31.Perhaps I overread something and I couldn´t edit the path after your reply, so I think we should refer to your tutorial ..;)
And peace...:)

depends on your visus, but for that you´ll probably check "big fonts" in Options Wink
also looking forward to the patched R34(/35?) Smile

why you rename a folder????

why you rename a folder???? "PortableAppsMenu" folder is in the PortableAppsMenuMod31_PaTChedV3 you only need to replace your existing "PortableAppsMenu" folder.
this is the patched version this will start with PortableAppsMenu 1.1
one qestion which version you have instaled as the original the new 1.1 (https://portableapps.com/download) or the old 1.0 1.0 beta4 or whatever ?????
for using the "Mod31 PaTChed" you must only copy the PortableAppMenu Folder. the start.exe works well, no .ini edit no .bat file or whatever!
(i have test it on many machines XP, Vista, win 2k with limited and unlimited account....)

kind regards

Renaming Apps

I just downloaded the latest Portable Apps and using it on Vista with 3 monitors.
When I do a rename, I can't see the dialog box to rename.

I didn't have that problem before upgrading.

Any ideas?

Anywhere

Does it appear anywhere, even a piece of the window on any of the 3 screens?

I'm working on a bugfix for a similar issue on a dual-monitor setup, basically centering it on the primary screen.

Hidden

I am sure it appears somewhere, it's hidden off screen. I blindly modified the name and it changed it. The thing is, the older version of portable apps, didn't have this issue.

If it's a dialog box, you

If it's a dialog box, you might try hitting alt + space, m, then moving your mouse around. the keys will lock the mouse to the title bar in move mode... that way you can find the wayward window... Not a fix, I know, but a workaround...

Workaround

The workaround doesn't work for me, because it goes below the task bar..and once u cross the task bar it loses focus.
