Running FFP3 off a U3 USB Key under Windows XP.
I have been prompted by Firefox to Update twice now, and gone through the steps, but each time I get an alert stating "The partial update could not be applied. Firefox will try again by downloading a complete update."
(This message also appeared after having clicked through the same message after a failed update.)
I realise that this may be an inherent think with Firefox Portable, as opposed to Plain Vanilla Firefox (ie installed locally), but just wanted to mention it here and see if other people are affected or if I am missing a simple solution.
Two things that cause the update to fail:
- Fx binaries are modified (corruption, packing, etc.)
- There is not enough space on the disk (try to have at least ~40MB free for temporary files)

Vintage!
the built in updater for the portable version as noone knows the outcome. It might work, it might not or it might affect a local install.
So if your not willing to experiment, just wait for the official version to come out.

I experimented, and the built in updater still hijacks the registry

Just update your local copy and everything will be ok.
Alive and kicking!

I tried to update via FF inner update too. I wish I didn't. The update damaged FF and it refuses now to start. When will portable version of 3.0.1 be available?
May the FOSS be with you!
to fix it, reinstall the standard FF3 on your local machine. It will keep your profile, and will restore all the registry keys
