Already Portable Apps

Where can I submit already portable apps I have found? In the Request Apps Forum? What about an Apps Submission Forum for these apps. I don't want to gunk up the Request Forum with submissions of these apps. But for now.....

With the apps listed below you can just unzip & put the folder in the PortableApps folder where the rest of your apps are installed. If you run across any apps out there that don't unpack into a folder you can try renaming it to "name".paf & opening it in the PortableApps.com installer located under options on the Portable Apps Platform.....ENJOY!

Revo Uninstaller Portable:
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Revo Uninstaller is great. Revo has many cool features aside from being able to uninstall programs from the host computer cleanly by removing leftover registry items and folders it also will clear many different junk files from the host and the Portable Apps drives including erasing beyond recovery of files folders & evidence left behind after emptying the recycle bin.

Free Commander:
http://freecommander.com

Free Commander is a utility to replace the windows explorer & has many great features including a customizable duel pane view & more that I don't feel like typing. Check it out.

NOTE: I would like to see this integrated into the Portable Apps platform so the host computer is not used. I don't know how or I would make it happen.

TrueCrypt
http://truecrypt.com

TrueCrypt is an awesome encryption tool for on-the-fly encryption. In portable mode it will create encrypted & hidden volumes. It will encrypt & password protect your USB drive & mounts it into a virtual drive so not sensitive information is left behind when you scoot. When installed on a main computer it will encrypt & password protect the the whole computer & has the ability to create an entire hidden OS.

Peace.....What

Not going to happen

PortableApps is about sw that doesn't impact the host. Revo Uninstaller Portable changes the host's Registry, therefore it doesn't qualify.

And unless Free Commander is Open Source it doesn't qualify either. Another PortableApps requirement.

That doesn't mean you can't add them to your USB stick, it simply means they aren't going to be added to PA.

As for TrueCrypt however, it's already here. See https://portableapps.com/node/14374

Free Commander

Free Commander isn't Open Source, but it is free to use and distribute unchanged and without charge.

Very nice and capable file manager, quite configurable, handles just about any task you'd want including internal archiving/unarchiving, directory compare/sync, internal file viewer/editor, thumbnails, mod file attributes (including timestamps), file renaming (including patterns and/or sequential), file searching, file wiping, drop to DOS, and on and on.

Multi-windowed AND tabbed interfaces in each window.

My current weapon of choice.

Yeah, tell me that WinDirStat does not affect host while doing cleanup. The same with Eraser.
Portable Apps are not about not affecting host, but not affect it in undesired way.

Please edit

Please edit your post: the link to revo points to a seemingly grabbed domain. Maybe you wanted to link to revouninstaller?

The only portable app in PAF format I found is FreeCommander. The other two apps may claim to be portable but I didn't manage to find a PAFfed version at their sites.

So? PAF has nothing to do

So? PAF has nothing to do with portability.

I know that TrueCrypt has

I know that TrueCrypt has been in the beta forums a couple times, and I use Xenon Portable for my file manager. Also, RevoUninstaller's portable edition is so you don't have to install it (if you're in a limited account, etc.). You wouldn't really need it "portable" to take everywhere. Wait, let's go uninstall all the software on that guys computer over there. Smile

Hahaha. That's a pretty good point about the Revo Uninstaller. I use it on my home computer, but travelling with it really doesn't serve any pupose I guess.

Traveling uninstaller

Back in a previous life, I was an IT guy supporting WANs/networks/computers in nine locations, some as far as a 5 hour drive from our main location.

In a situation like that, it makes sense to carry around tools to clean up or work on those computers. I wish I had USB drives and portable tools back then.

Now I'm retired and my portability needs are more personal, like when I'm traveling, visiting friends or relatives.

At least some of them will invite me for a BBQ and a beer first. That's my "pay".
