PTB eating new mails

After a reformat/clean install of WinXP Home SP2 I decided I wanted to go with portable programs wherever possible. PTB 1.502 + Enigmail & GPG installed fine and copying my previous profiles and data directories seemed to work OK. That was a couple of days ago. Now I am beginning to see a problem.

When initially signed in, I see no problems but after PTB has been running for several hours I find an apparent issue. I use filters to sort emails into a bunch of different folders based on sender or subject. The header for the folder lights up and says there are x new mails. I click on the folder and, voila', there are no new mails in the folder.

I use Mailwasher Pro as an anti-spam client. This means I see the titles of most emails. I know some of the emails I expect to find. And they are gone. No, they are not in the Trash.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what might be causing it? Closing PTB and reopening seems to stop it from happening but it happens again later.

Losing email is traumatic.

Found 'em!

They were in Junk. I've never used TB's junk system. I guess it was turned on by default in PTB. I've turned it off now (I hope).

Surprised the Junk folder doesn't light up when it gets something in it.

Junk Training

Paul,

Yeah, that can surprise some people in TB. Give the Junk Mail a try, though. It's adaptive (meaning you train it and it learns what you consider junk and real mail). You can make it easier to see what messages are where by turning on the expanded columns in the folder pane. Head to Tools - Options - Advanced - General and then check off "Show expanded columns in the folder pane". Then, in the folder pane, you get a little column that allows you to show/hide total messages, unread messages and folder size. I show total and unread, myself.

As emails come in, when you get one that's junk that shouldn't be, click on the little picture of a trash can next to the message in the message list... or click "Not Junk" next to your message headers... or click the Not Junk button on the toolbar.... all work the same way. When you get a junk message in your inbox and TB doesn't see it as junk, click in the junk column in the message pane to make the trash can appear or click the Junk button on the toolbar up top. Try training TB for about a week and then see how well it does with helping you avoid spam.

Regards,
John

Thanks for the reminder.

I forgot that 1.5 was updating the Junk mail handling. I have had it turned off ever since 1.0.7.

This is why I read the forums almost everyday. Thanks John.

Writes to portable drive much less now?

Alo

Just to clarify, the issue about huge amount of writes to the portable drive (when Junk Mail filtering is on) has changed since the 1.0x versions, right?

Tnx.
