Good work, But...

For some reason on the pc I am using, all programs work fine except for Sync, i get a cannot open page_select.ini error. I will check it later on my other pc if I get the same problem. Other than that, I noticed in restore, you still have some of the page titles, or wording using the Backup words, instead of restore. Such as on the settings page, you asking for the backup job settings instaed of the restore job settings, and in the status page, it says backing up now, or something like. i wasn't sure if this was meant, so I thought I mention it.

Good work you two.

Viva El Libertà!

Thanks Steve, this is great - I'm so happy this is out! Thank you thank you thank you. Using the tools of Liberta, will applications which would normally require Administrative privledges to run (administrative file/reg entries) now work without making the required entries? I guess I'm basically asking if you achieved something like a virtual registry and filestructure for the program to draw from.

Not yet

This is nothing. Wait till you see the real thing...

This is just a "registry wrapper" program, like Registry Rapper or Registry Rocker; there's no virtual registry/filesystem involved.

Ugh.

You just reminded me how much I hate SourceForge. Have to click about 4 links just to get at the download, and then another click to select the desired mirror. Bah.

One thing: you should have custom icons for the modules, instead of the default NSIS installer one.

yep

I agree.

Try this Greasemonkey script -- if there's a link straight to the file, it's one click the first time, and zero clicks after that.

@Steve: Two things... You should release this as an SFX archive/ZIP archive also. And have you gotten my e-mail yet?

All right!

By the way... I can't download the file yet (no 7z on this computer, no usb ports, no downloading...). Can you tell me about the Wrap function, and what it does?

Would you find Registry Rocker useful here? (Expect version 0.3 sometime next week, by the way.)

Hm.

Interesting. What you're doing is very similar to Registry Rocker, except apparently you need Wrap.exe to run apps portably, while RegRock generates custom launchers.

I renamed New.ini to see what would happen, and NewWrap started reading the whole Registry. What the heck is it doing?

Log Options...

Is not included, the log option in the main folder is just the ICON file log Options.ico. Everything else seems to work fine.

New threads

Unless you're doing a new version a couple times a week. I'd suggest creating a new thread and linking that to/from the project page... and updating the old thread as [closed]. That will keep things less cluttered.

Sync (2.0 RC3) & Backup 0.9

I'm posting this here, because there doesn't appear to be a live forum over on their site.

I'm having a few problems with these apps.

Firstly Sync

1. I don't understand why there are 2 entries for source and destination, with the first entry being a drop down, offering firefox & thunderbird
--
Edit; actually I think I do, this is using entries in the Categories list. May I suggest that once in this option, you are offered a dialog box allowing you to select a file (for application) and a folder so you can easily pick previously used folders for synching.

2. If I choose a source folder say; C:\Documents and Settings\(Us)\Desktop\Y0 and then change my mind and decide on;C:\Documents and Settings\(Us)\My Documents why does it actually stuff in both entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\(Us)\Desktop\Y0C:\Documents and Settings\(Us)\My Documents
Shouldn't it delete the first entry rather than adding onto the end? This threw me the first time before I realised what was happening.

Admittedly, I haven't seen a help file, and I know it's a release Candidate only.

Backup 0.9

This actually works for me unlike the old MiniUp

I have one concern/query though.
If I decide to back up my ENTIRE flash drive, when I come to restore it again, I have some extra files in the root dir that were not there before.
--
edit;
I DO see what's happening now, it doesn't preserve the folder structure, it's dumping everything into the root dir. (the folders are all still there, but now empty)

Can this be fixed?, it would be handy to be able to backup/restore the whole thing and preserve the file structure intact.

Here we go...

Sync

1. Its copies from Source to Destination, I'm not quite sure what you are asking here. It automatically stores the folder that you choose for the next time that you use it.

2. This is fixed in 2.0, which I am releasing shortly.

Backup

1. This is unusual, I haven't noticed it before. However, 2.0 RC 1 is coming out very soon and that should fix it.

Also the forums are live, we just haven't spread the word around that the site is open for business.

Steve I'm using liberta already sometime, but on my machine it work smoother than the silk (no error, no strange messages, just plain hard sync works) as well as backup.

Well it knows what's in the Categories list but

It's not auto adding any folders that I use.
or example if I synch from a folder called test1 on my desktop to a folder called test2 on my desktop, these entries do not appear on the drop down.

This is where the confusion is coming from, you have the left hand side drop down, and the right hand side "choose folder" for both source and destination.

Are you saying that anything that you choose (and synch from) on the right hand side, is automatically added into the left hand side drop down for future use? (I believe it would be useful if it did) but it's certainly not currently.
The only things showing are those items already in the Categories list, with no way that I can see to add a folder.

Maybe as an alternative you should add a "browse for folder" option in the edit function of the Categories dialog and then folders can be added into the drop down list that way.

Just for clarity, I'm now using the latest release of the program, and no longer RC3

No,

What it does is it stores the folder that you selected in the browser against the Category name. To clarify this I'll show you an INI file extract:

[COMPUTERNAME]
Firefox=C:\\Documents and Settings\\Steven\\Desktop\\Maths Coursework
Portable\ Firefox=C:\\Documents and Settings\\Steven\\Desktop\\test34

N.B. These are two random folders. This means that the next time I use the program and select Firefox from the drop down box it will automatically fill in the location text box with C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Desktop\Maths Coursework

Yes I see now

Sorry for the confusion, i'm a techy person, but that just wasn't obvious first time round, however... after reading your last post several more times I got it.
Obviously a help file or a more in depth readme would go a long way for the thickies like myself, as it really wasn't readily apparant what the "Categories" function was for.

Now that I do know how to work it, it's working brilliantly, and I WILL be using it as my synch app of choice.

I 've a back up in liberta which is properly working but if I have to restore (due to any reason) what I have to do??
Is it still feasible to use the old version for restore or not?
Is it scheduled a restore prgm to come??
Or I'm totaly blind and there is an option that I haven't see?

Are you using 2.0 RC1? If so you can just use a standard unzipper. A restore feature is coming in 2.0 RC2. Glad you like it.

RC1! yes

Unfortunately is the n.1 hope will be shortly a RC2, since as working is simply smooth, perfect, flowlessly giving the results advertised, the only missing is the restore embedded in the prgm.

Discovered the trouble

On the RC1 I found a"virus" or a spyware that embedded in the program straight out of a three layer direct defense plus an additional spyware killer, actually while passing to RC2 (by the way is working perfectly) I decided to clean up all .

Now all is back in shape.
Congratulations
