I was out looking for a different file manager and noticed that Free Commander has a PA version hosted on the official site. Just wanted John to be aware that others are jumping on the bandwagon too.

Does that mean you could maybe offer to link to it from PortableApps.com?
It's really for them, not for pa.com. So i think that's why it isn't linked.
Na na na, come on!
It would seem to me it would be best to refer to it as :
Free Commander Portable (in a .paf format)
not as a PA version or PortableApps version or PortableApps.com version as it is NOT a version from this site, just their portable version that is using our file structure and they would have to support it, not us.
They are giving us good press though![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
And by the way, I use it. It's great.
self.path = path if self.path == None else self.path
Does anyone think this app will be paffed?

...about "paffed", esp. if it's not open-source.
But it certainly could get "BAMF'd"...

It is "paffed", just not by us.
paf = portableapps.com format
paffed = put into the portableapps.com format

Nice to see a Portable version of other sources but PortableApps.com. You know this is and will be an open platform. Well the thing I hope for is that PortableApps.com will acknowledge the fact that other sources of portable versions are available by linking to them through a special page or something.
To not link to other sites offering portable products targeted at the PortableApps.com platform is wasting the advantage of making the world aware of portable apps beyond the PortableApps.com website.
Deserves a 3rd party link at least![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
My two Euro cents!
I ditto that. If the product is reliable like this one, linking to it wont hurt![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)

Free Commander *was* offered by PortableApps.com at one time. I got about the middle of 2008 and used it for a while. It seemed to work fine, except that now and then I ended up with corrupted files that I began to suspect were caused by Free Commander. I finally stopped using it because I couldn't be sure if it actually was corrupting the files or not.
Then I noticed just recently that it was no longer listed in the applications offered by PortableApps.com and I wondered why it no longer was offered. I have seen no discussion of the issue anywhere, but surely someone at PortableApps.com could tell me (us really) if they found some problem with Free Commander or whether the de-listing was due to some other reason.
Does anybody know if Free Commander has ever been found to corrupt files? I would appreciate any information.

free commander was never offered by us and we never endoresed it either.

We gave them permission to do a PAF version. It's here:

We just weren't listing freeware on our site yet. We will shortly.

I guess you misunderstood me
I meant on our site in the applications list ![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)

I realized last night as I was lying in bed, trying to go to sleep, that I probably was wrong about getting Free Commander from PortableApps.com. I put it in the PortableApps folder on my flash drive and it behaved very much like any other program there, so I began to think of it as a PortableApps program. What clinched it for me was that I had it on another computer, and when I loaded it, I saw immediately that the splash screen was not the one I see when I load PortableApps program.
Sorry for the mental lapse on my part.
I still would appreciate anyone who has experience with Free Commander commenting on how reliably it works. I liked it better than anything else I've ever used, but the corrupted files I was getting occasionally bothered me. I could never be sure what was causing the problem.

I have used it for years on XP & for a while on vista.
I have never had any problems with this.
Also when freeware is allowed to be listed on this site, it should be included with the official apps because it is a true dual pane file manager unlike some that claim to be multipane. It's a brilliant program.
We like FreeCommander. It's one of the apps that's gonna be listed![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)

OK, that's two assurances that Free Commander is reliable. I'm feeling better about using it. Thanks.

The usual reason for corrupted files on USB sticks is not closing them down safely before removing them. Windows caches files and allocation tables for removeable drives and if they aren't written to the drive before it is removed can result in corrupt files and even corrupt drives.
Ed
I'm well aware of the need to close down any USB device before removing it, and I'm careful to do that. The two likely sources of corrupted files for me are the text editor, which might not be marking the end of file correctly, or the utility that copies files from one drive to another. The only times I got corrupted files (and it was only now and then) was when I was using Free Commander, so that's why I raised the issue of its reliability. Of course, dumb luck or chance could have caused the corruption.

As previously I didn't see any need for one. However I decided to give it a go after the positive press in this thread and well I have to say I am impressed = ) In the hope that the devs stumble across this thread I thought I would suggest file associations similar to how Xenon File Manager or Cafe Mod.
