Program: Coccinella
License: Open Source/GPLv3
Description: A cross-platform instant messaging client with a built-in whiteboard, VoIP support, file transfer, and so forth.
Website: http://coccinella.im/
Other: You can make a cross-platform USB stick. Simply put the Windows, Mac OS X and Linux binaries on the USB stick. Open the binary on all platforms and open the preferences screen. In the first settings panel you'll find a setting to store the preferences in the same location as the binary. After you do this, settings and chat history will be stored on the USB stick and will be available on whatever platform you use the stick.
I was this the other night. It's kinda different, I'll install it now though, as I downloaded it the other night.
Is there any chance to bring that into a portable app ?
I think, it's an interesting project.
If we're going to add another IM app, we need to pick carefully. I have a package of Gajim Portable completely done, as it's a popular Jabber client, I'm just waiting until there next release which will be more stable. Coccinella is not really the best choice the only feature it has over other Jabber clients is the integrated whiteboard, which isn't handy to many people.
but if someone wanted to just do a beta, or even an unofficial app it would be fine

Problem was there's a different file system layout between the current release and the current Windows test builds. That last build I had was quite unsable. I'll try a new one.
What issues did you encountered?
You forgot about VoIP support in Coccinella; it's not a feature that all clients support.
Gajim is working on integrating Jingle, however.
There's a slight difference between "working on" and delivering Jingle support for over 2 years...
Okay, that's besides the point. Gajim is one of the more popular Jabber clients. The only unique feature Coccinella has it has an integrated whiteboard. Even the developer says he doesn't believe it's the best Jabber client. It doesn't even support logging in with multiple accounts, not that it isn't a pretty decent Jabber client.
well that whiteboard thing is nice, my friend and I have tested it with my Tablet Pc and it rules, ok ,it's not decent but it's still in development so it will get better. maybe this is a project to wait on, til it's more fully developed, to make portable.

Yes this is a rare feature for third party IM clients (By third party I mean the clients that were not developed by the people who developed the protocols). This would be a very nice add-on to the suite ^_^
iLike Macs, iPwn, However you put it... Apple is better ^_^

I say that this Im has potential, If this Im is fairly stable, someone should make a portable version, so that away you can...
A. Improve the Nsis Launcher so it is ready for later use
B. Help find bugs for the program itself, which would most likely speed up development for this app.
C. See if this is what people like, instead of just making something portable because of usefulness, cause some people just want a basic Im that is convenient for them.
That is just my 2 cents.
I was also reading their faq about VoIp and in the future there may be a possibility for video conferences which would be very cool.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Video conferencing? OMG that would be great. Plus it is cross-platform which is definitely a plus ^_^ I hope it will be compatible with iSight ^_^
