PortableWinamp

I'm authorized to distribute winamp. although that isn't necesary 'cause the modifications made are simply folders into the .ini used by winamp to get the skins, plugins and the library.

all who wants to test the winamp 5.52 , here is the link where to download:

How do you get the program to run in English?

Here's the distribution

Here's the distribution license. It doesn't mention GPL I think.
http://www.winamp.com/legal/distribution
There people can register to re-distribute Winamp.
(Hmm, John, maybe something of interest for PortableApps.com official release if permitted?)

Second; you are redistributing an Italian (or Spanish) default for winamp?

I personally believe all portable applications should be English and at the user's choice be able to set a language.

WinAmp is still not open

WinAmp is still not open source. it is a closed source program owned by AOL/TimeWarner. most of the programs here are F/OSS programs under the GPL license to prevent any lawsuits from the copyright holder. I doubt it will ever be hosted on this site. I think john mentioned something to this respect in a previous tread about a closed source program.

On another note i am glad someone is working on making it portable Smile

WinAmp is already portable,

WinAmp is already portable, just not in paf folder format. Agreed, it isn't Open Source, which does restrict the hosting used by this site.

Actually, It's Not

Actually WinAMP isn't truely portable. It leaves a 3 or 4 registry keys on the host system that need to be backed up and restored. One key for example relates to your Pro Registration, if you open winamp on a computer and enter your registration info, then the version of winamp on your portable drive will only have the pro features unlocked on that particular computer and no others.

I was talking about the

I was talking about the freely downloadable version. The Pro version is shareware, requiring you to pay AND register. What other registry entries have you documented? MRU's don't count. And entries left by GraceNote don't either; you don't have to install GraceNote for WinAmp to work.

There are 4

There are 4:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\interface/x-winamp3-skin]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\interface/x-winamp-lang]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\interface/x-winamp-skin]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nullsoft\Winamp]

The first three are file associations that should not be on the computer if WinAMP is not locally installed and the last one is where the Pro registration is located. It should be backed up and restored even if the portable (free) version is not registered.

does

the distribute "without change" part refer to the installer or the files?

i think it's about the exe

i think it's about the exe file. don't decompile and recompile with a new version. and use only an EXE installation file for each new version lauched from Winamp website

Could you cite redistribution

Could you cite redistribution license's text about it?
Because "Unmodified" usually refers to installers unless you directly ask for something else.
