Check for same version on HD

What if the PFF launcher checked say "C:\Programs Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" if its there and the same version as pff then launch it with the profile on the USB that way it would save the reading of the flash drive to only the profile(I have reg firefox installed but never use it it would be better it both could be launched at once form 2 different sources)

No Real Advantage

There's no real advantage to do that as its the profile that stresses the flash drive (mainly by the number of writes). The Firefox directory is mostly just read and then cached.

It was a good thought, though.

Maybe not for the number of read/writes but purely for the advantage of speed?

Again

Again, there would be no advantage in speed. The entire reason why Firefox is slower from a flash drive is because of the reads and writes to the profile directory. Firefox's binaries aren't that big. Besides, what if the local copy of Firefox was corrupt or had a virus?

could give an option like " We found the same version of Firefox on the hard drive click "OK" if you trust this computer or "pure portable" to run directly off the drive"

No

Again, there is No advantage to running the local copy of Firefox beyond saving maybe 1 second-ish on initial launch time. It will not make Firefox run faster while it is running. Essentially no benefit for extra coding, extra support and extra bugging the user.

You're absolutely right.

You're absolutely right. Besides starting of FireFox could be a bit faster when loading from HDD (while still using the profile on flash drive) and an MD5 check to make sure local FireFox is unaltered by viruses and other things, it would not have any other advantage.

Thanks for considering it anyway.
