Cache disabled but still there is usb drive activity during FF sessions

I am still running Firefox 2.0.0.16:
Ages ago (see https://portableapps.com/node/4589) [and probably referring to 2.0.0.8 or similar] I was able to report that during Firefox sessions there was "no usb activity whatsoever".
Now, however I try to set up 2.0.0.16 (cache size 0, history Not saved, cookies Not saved, etc ...) the usb is continuously flashing away to itself, indicating some kind of drive activity. What is being saved to the drive -if that is indeed what is happening - where, and why? Can anybody advise me whether it is still possible to pursue an entirely "memory-resident" Firefox session and, if it is, what other settings other than those mentioned still need attention?
Thank you very much.
Fergus
PS This matters partly because my usb drive LaCie 40G just has to be the slowest ever! My old 4G stick might have been small but oh! it was fast compared to this. It would be more efficient to write files by hewing them byte by byte out of stone ...

Session Saver

You need to also disable the session saver as outlined in the support page:
https://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#performance

And possibly anti-phishing.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thank you

Thank you for your rapid and helpful response. I have implemented all the additional steps mentioned but am still getting chronic on-ing and off-ing of the USB disk activity light during Firefox sessions. Hard to know what I've left unattended! Is there a file I could attach (about:config, though I don't quite know where to look for it at the moment) that you might spend 40 nanoseconds looking at and could then say: "This is the bit that still needs attention"?
Best wishes,
Fergus

Thank you and PS

Postscript to earlier "Thank you" from Fergus:

Angel Could it be that bookmarks.html is repeatedly being accessed with all that stuff about "Last visited" and so on; or, that "ICON" or some other field is being constantly updated?

(b) By the way, if I really strip FF down to allow no writing to disk (well, as far as I've got, which clearly isn't yet quite far enough) I find I cannot Login to PortableApps. I'ver written this forum submission by first accessing PortableApps through MS Internet Explorer, and logging in from there. How weird is that? Could it have been expected?

... and another thing

Sorry for this piecemeal approach. With FF2 running, but with everything turned off (or intended to be turned off) I find that almost immediately after removing

/Firefox/Data/profile/formhistory.dat
/Firefox/Data/profile/history.dat

bang! they spring back into existence. There may be others as well (it's quite hard to establish exactly what's going on). I have unselected all 3 of

Remember visited pages
Remember what I enter in forms

Remember what I've downloaded
