I'm thinking at this point that Pidgin 2.5.0 itself is simply a bit unstable. I've had numerous crashes on a regular local version of 2.5.0 since the upgrade. A couple a day at least. So, if you don't need the updated MSN features or the Gadu Gadu fixes, you may be better off sticking with 2.4.3.
Personally, I may downgrade since I don't use Gadu Gadu and I'm dropping MSN since I get dozens of spam messages a day on it (and everyone I know on MSN also has AOL or GTalk).

No crashes for me and I have making several changes lately.
I haven't noticed any crashes anymore...Though it is just a bit unstable in general...Though I haven't seen any random crashes once I disabled "ExtPlacement" my crash on quit stopped happen. It definitely seems as if they rushed this release.
I've noticed it's been very crashy. I probably would agree with you in returning to 2.4.3.

I've had it on Windows and Linux since release and I use it quite regularly, no issues at all, though I know there have been many as I see in the tickets and IRC. Only issue I had was I didn't have the fancy new MSN protocol 15 support, though it was a clean install. I talked to someone else who had the issue and had to manually get the DLL from them, it was odd.
I haven't upgraded yet. Just want to say that i hardy receive 'spam' messages (had 2 some months ago asking me to go to a site and enter MSN details for 'better service' that obviously was phishing, send by one contact while offline...
I hope the next version will be more stable.
I would have to agree, every time I would double click on a name in the list with 2.5 it would crash, I figured out that if I just right clicked I could click IM and it would work, but then after about 4 received messages then next incoming message would kill it totally, no errors or anything. At that point it took a reboot to get it to even load without crashing on load.
I need to go over to the pidgin bug track and see if there is anything reported but I'm switching back to 2.4.3 for sure since 2.5 didn't add support for file xfers to people using the actual gtalk client I have no need for the new features it did add.
John, Pidgin always was extremely unstable. It's crashing regularily. And it is also a heavy memory eater. I would always choose aMSN or Miranda. Both are very stable and lite on resources. I still have Pidgin on PortableApps.com Platform but I never really use it.
Pidgin's always been pretty stable for me. aMSN is the one that wasn't stable for me. The only issues I've had with Pidgin was when it would crash when coming out of PC standby, and sometimes plugins cause crashes, but for me, Pidgin's been just fine 'n' dandy.
I am on the same boat Patrick. I never have issues with pidgin, unless it's with a plugin...plus with running 15 different accounts, I don't think 70MB ram usage is bad at all...
I use Pidgin daily with AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Google and IRC for 10+ hours a day and have used it that way for years. I've never had crashing issues except with the 2.5.0 release. Like anything else, you can get yourself into trouble with Pidgin add-ons, but I don't really use any except OTR on occasion.

Pidgin crashed on my comp many times. When somebody sends custom emoticon on MSN, Pidgin immediately slows down and eventually crashes. Also it crashed in many other occasions. However, Miranda Portable never crashed on my comp.
One of the many bugs in pidgin in this release. If you look at the changelog and the resolved tickets in the new release, your issue is covered I believe.
Speaking of the new (2.5.1) release ...
Does it resolve the bugs that have been mentioned here?
