Is there going to be an update to this version anytime soon?

Do you really think that the good folks who update this app (and site) have somehow MISSED this one? You asking for it is not going to get it here any quicker. If you think that 2.5.0 is too unstable, then use an earlier version. Don't try to hurry up the guy rebuilding the portable version - he'll get it done and posted when it's done, and not a minute before.

(apologies to any ladies that are involved in compiling and posting)

It gets very annoying seeing everybody crying and whining because their FREE product is not available quickly enough for them. If you want it quicker - learn to compile it yourself!

Well thanks for your kind

Well thanks for your kind response, but last I checked I wasnt crying or whining about when they're going to release it or whatever. I was just curious as to whether any of the regular project managers were working on it and if not I was gonna try my hand at pidgin also because I've been sitting and reading about fixes they have for this version in this forum. So you know I already know how to do all the portable apps stuff I've done it to songbird before i noticed there was even a test out.

Anyway as i started out thanks for your kind response. I knew posting on the board was a bad idea, I'll just go back to sitting and watching now as I used to do for the past year i've been using portable.

Sorry Bud

Hey, and welcome to the PortableApps.com forums. Biggrin Sorry about the first post there by kaufman. There's often a lot of requests for updates or wondering when an update will be and some people just get frustrated with it. Please don't take it personally.

As for the Pidgin release, it should be fairly soon, there's just some stuff John has to fix with it and various other changes. However, in the future it's best just to wait it out as out portable releases usually come out a week later at the very latest, but John's been very quickly lately.

Again, sorry about the first comments and I hope you can become a part of the forum community.

I also apologize for the response you received to your maiden post. It was out of line and uncalled for.

Tim

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

I

third the response from my moderator colleagues. You are very welcome on this forum, please don't take those comments to heart. kaufman has seriously overstepped the line but I would like to think comments like that are not representative of this community as a whole.

I

am also with the above moderators and apologize for the comment by kaufman. That was out of line. Welcome to the community, I do hope that you sill stick around and enjoy your stay.

It will be out, when it will be out, all of the work done here is donated work. John, as stated above, is working on it and as soon as he's done it will be released Smile

Keep an eye out Smile

excuse my frustration...

It didn't sound to me like lomarb was offering to work on a project that nobody else was working on - it sounded just like all of the other messages complaining b/c the portable version wasn't released at the exact same moment that the ... uhhh... non-portable version is.

I do a lot of free programming myself, and I see messages like that all the time - and for whatever reason, it just pushed my buttons today.

I don't apologize for my post, and I'm not trying to start up anything here. I greatly appreciate the effort that all of the portableapps folks put into making such a fine site and suite of products, and it just gets to me when people complain about it. I'll just leave the defending of it to others from this point on.

lomarb. if you are n such a

lomarb.

if you are n such a hurry, this is how you can upgrade your own install of pidgin 2.5.0 to pidgin 2.5.1

goto http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=235&package_id=230234

download pidgin-2.5.1-win32-bin.zip

extract the archive to a temporary folder...

in the archive find the pidgin.exe file & rename it as pidgin-portable.exe

now find the poratable app installation folder ... (ie. most probably th portableapps folder on your pen-drive)

Navigate to PenDrv\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin folder....

Now copy all all the files in the archive into this folder.... (as you will see this folder will have the same structure as the archive folder)

whola, now get back to pidgin launcher & you will be running pidgin 2.5.1

and, also, if you short on disk space & you will be using pidgin only in US english, in the above folder delete the locale folder...

further info on building a portable buil of pidgin without using the portable apps inataller can be found at http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#RunningWindowsPidginFroma... for windows & http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#RunningLinuxPidginFromaUS... for linux respectively...
