I started a new thread U3 Shortcut Creator.
Personally I added PStart to the U3 launchpad as AutoStart and prefer to use it.
If you mean the password protection that's included in U3, word on the street is that it isn't really that secure and doesn't actually encrypt your data. It just prevents the second partition on the device from loading. So, an enterprising individual can still get at all your stuff. Keep all your important bits in an encrypted password app (like Keepass, Signupshield or Pass2Go). On a non-U3 device, you can encrypt the whole drive with something like TrueCrypt.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Most U3 smart drive models include password protection using standard 128-bit encryption. Once you invoke the password protection for the U3 smart drive, no one can see the mass storage area until a proper password is entered. This also refers to accessing the drive itself. The files cannot be seen without entering the password correctly.
that is what the u3 site says. the only reason I use u3 is because of that security. Am i too trusting of the site? or is it really 128 bit encrption? Where did you hear about the security issue?
128-bit encryption just means the password is stored as a 128-bit hash. Doesn't necessarily mean the files themselves are physically encrypted. If they're not, then theoretically someone good with electronics could still get at the files.

Here is a nicely built FREE FOR PERSONAL USE program that will build the necessary file *.u3p for you to choose install program from U3 launch menu and I recommend starting with the wizard click the advanced button (lower right) Choose "Host Folder" Tab Remove all listings Click "Device Folder" Tab and re add all folders and help files back as this will keep the program and all inherent file saves (like settings) to stay on the drive instead of saving to host machine (which means you will have to sett all preferences on every separate machine instead of them following you after one setting. http://www.eure.ca/ Google "Package Factory" if link is ever dead.
