If you keep it on your person at all times, it is quite well protected. As far as a software solution, there isn't one. With physical access to the drive, one can do what one wishes. It is possible to encrypt the data, but not to prevent file or disk operations (copying, deleting, formatting, etc.).

but your drive could still be erased couldn't it? "Right click->Format"?
is on the market.
But it costs something, Ironkey is one for example.
There used to be some other sticks with write protect switch, would be useful for some AV software , but I could not find any of those recently in the shops.

it does simple file encryption locally, this does for example toucan too.
It writes to docs and settings, to registry as well.
This is not anything like truecrypt. However it does not need admin priv, since it works only locally, thought it uses some windows crypto api functions.
It uses simple password as key, you can well use any compression software doing the same.
hiding of files is done by setting the hidden attrib!
Alltogether not worth the money they are asking for, lot of freeware does the same or more.
