What does everyone recommend for synchronizing my portable apps off my USB to my PC?
Ideally, I would like to have one master copy of all my apps (located on a server or USB), so when I sign into a PC or Laptop, it would pull/sync from the master copy and run it locally (for speed purposes or if I forgot my USB drive).
I like Toucan but I'm not sure how to automate the syncing part of it.
Oh, and did I mention I would like it secured too without using Truecrypt (because it requires admin rights). It's a tall order but I'd appreciate your input and advice.
The PortableApps menu comes with a backup utility, and you can set it to only back up settings, so you can keep a local copy on your HDD and only have to transfer small settings files. There's also a way in Windows to sync a folder on your computer with a network one but I can't find any way to do that with a USB drive.
Well, schwooba, I hate to tell you this, but its not gonna happen.
Not everyone synchronizes. I've read many posts, and can only say that you'll have to write something custom in autohotkey, perl, NSIS, autoit, or batch to accomplish what you want.
You could, perchance, create a "PortableApps" folder on your C:\ drive and sync from there with a script.
So far, the only that can be offered for encryption is truecrypt. Else, you'll have to buy a stick with hardware encryption.
