Why not copy the new files in

Why not copy the new files in the folder (App\vlc) of the VLCPortable directory? First remove the old files in App\vlc.
I tried it and it works.

I'll try

I'll try, thanks!

The new version is completely different from the ones before. I'm trying it out now, and I like it, although I have to get used to it.

Other opinions?

I also like the new interface

I also like the new interface of VLC, especially the control panel that now appears when in full screen.

I would like to ask what is the difference, if any, between an eventual portable version of VLC 0.9.2 and the Windows 7zip version that I downloaded there: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html ???

Basically, I just extracted this file and it seems to work as a PortableApps version. May be it will leave traces on the PC, but I don't know how to check for that.

This(7zip) is the version

This(7zip) is the version without an installer. But it stores it's settings in the "AppData" section of your OS. The portable version from here make this data storing in his own folder.
And that is the reason you should wait for a new portable Version. When you copy the new files to the directory I post, the portable version will leave files back. It leaves files in the AppData section of your OS. I think this is about the new interafe and something else.
"ml.xspf" and "vlc-qt-interface.ini" are left behind when you copy the new files in the directory.

So wait for a new release of the portable Version from Portableapps. This is the better way.

if you are very impatient like me

extract the 7zip or zip file,
and use this command to launch vlc.
vlc.exe --no-plugins-cache --config=vlcrc --no-media-library

-no-media-library option would help preventing the formation of ml.xspf file.

Now only one file is left to tackle with, i.e. vlc-qt-interface.ini
According to guys at #videolan, there is no direct option to move or prevent qt interface file formation.

No need

Hi Thomas

There is no need to notify us because first John gets notified about updates automatically and second posting about it here doesn't change anything about its release. As the saying goes "It will be done when its done"™
It may take even longer this time as this is a major release and drops support for everything older than Win 2k.

Oh and welcome here Smile

I tried it out and... i don't

I tried it out and... i don't like the new bulky buttons with irregular size. also the DTS is messed up and now sends data to the wrong speakers.

Additional Features

We'll be doing a pre-release of this due to the addition of the media library. We may hold off on an official release because some of the new features like the media library are pretty buggy (nearly to the point of being unusable at times) so I'd assume the VideoLAN folks will be doing a point-release on 0.9.2 fairly quickly.

Grabbing Non-Portable Copy

They seem to be taking a pretty big jump from 0.8.2i to 0.9.2... I'll definitely grab a copy to play around with & patiently await for the Portable beta version to come out. Biggrin

VLC Media Player 0.9.2

I have dwnlded the latest player (not portable)but I had to go back to the old version because all of my (Dutch)radiostreams starting with HTTP fail to open.
The ones starting with MMS worked fine.

VLC 0.9.3 Supposedly Coming Soon

I looked thru the forums over at VLC and the main developer sez he's releasing 0.9.3 (with bug fixes) in a few days.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Figured

I kinda figured it would come soon as 0.9.2 is pretty buggy.

VLC 0.9.3 is out, but not yet

VLC 0.9.3 is out, but not yet for Windows.
If you check out the VLC Homepage, you will see that they are VERY much in need of Windows developers.
I know we have some great talent here...

No Windows

They're discontinued official Windows builds entirely right now, so there is no Windows release of 0.9.3 for Windows at all.
