My Take on Ceedo and StickyDrive

I have four flash drives from 512 to 1GB; guess I am becoming an addict. I knew that today when I realized
that with what I want to do 1GB is not enough LOL.

Ceedo is pretty neat as long as you are content to have only it on your drive. When I put other apps I
quickly saw there would be glitches. IE on it is the only version I've heard of that is available but it is
not Java enabled so there are problems with some sites. I'm wondering what will happen when IE upgrades
to new version. Does the customer have to stay satisfied with the old? They do have an update program once you have paid $40 but I wonder...The carrot and the stick for me (no pun intended) was the upcoming promise of Picasa but again I wonder.

StickyDrive is fun if you like drag and drop but if you try to load outside apps they will go into the docs folder. Its apps are not as fresh as they promised and updating can be done on some and not on others. Oh well, it's a great idea but there is much more work to be done. Of course this one is FREE.

What I want is my computer on a stick with Java and all, slick graphics, photo programs, all with an easy management system. Maybe one day!

You do know that the copy of IE you're running from Ceedo isn't actually a portable version of IE, right? It just launches the local copy of IE and redirects all its settings files to the USB key.

Re: Ceedo and StickyDrive

I suspected as much but did not know for sure as I knew MS would not allow such.

I like Ceedo the best of the two programs. It has more to offer in apps and I
just got some interesting info from the company today which I will quote here:

2) To your question of which is the more "powerful" version - Ceedo
Personal is our flagship consumer product while Ceedo Starter is our OEM
offering. Starting next month, however, Ceedo Starter will be phased out
of production in favor of a new Ceedo Personal version which will be
distributed both through our website and through our partners. For
specific information about the Verbatim and Lexar products, I recommend
that you contact Verbatim and Lexar directly.

In addition, I can tell you that in the beginning of July we will be
releasing an add-on for Ceedo Personal called InstallAnything, which
allows users to install and run programs which are outside of the
Programs Directory list. This add-on will be priced separately to Ceedo.
That said, as a service to our customers, those who purchase Ceedo up to
that date will receive it free of charge.

I like John's latest apps better than any other programs but I think it might
be fun to have Ceedo on at least one drive to see what does come from this technology. The InstallAnything will be a great improvement.
Thanks for the info. I learn so much from this group and love every moment of it.

It's not so much an issue of MS not allowing it--though I suppose that's one factor. It has more to do with the way IE works. It writes all its stuff to %APPDATA%. There's no easy way to make it portable without redirecting %USERPROFILE% (which, on some systems, causes major problems which can only be solved by a reboot).
