Portable Apps Menu -- Suggestions

I suggest a context menu for the items on the menu.

On it, I have the following:

1. Rename -- Change the name that is shown to you.

2. Hide From Menu -- Removes the item from the menu.

I also suggest a new button on the menu, "Show All", which only appears if you have at least one hidden item.

3. Show On Menu -- Makes the item not hidden anymore. Only shows if the item is hidden, and you click Show All and find the context menu of the item you want.

--

Also, being able to change the order of the files and have that new order be persistent would be really helpful.

Next Release

All these features will be in the next release of the platform. "Show All" is named "Show hidden icons". And when you right-click on an icon, there's a checkable "Hide icon" option.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

yes

i agree but if you think about it there are so many apps being converted to PA format and I have seen people ask John this same question. his response is that it is on hold at the moment.

I would like to see the new version of the PA suite myself. using the Mod34 patch is what i had to resort to in the meantime.

It was somewhere a PortableApps Clone

I lost it in my backups. But before version 1.1 was released, I used it. It was very similar as official PortableApps, with these differences:
* Create folders to group links in it.
* Hide applications we don't want in start menu
* Rename other applications
* Change target file for Movie, Music, etc

Does someone of you know if we can find an alternative to have this improvements?

thanks a lot.

How about Mod R34?

Menu Mod R34 was released a while ago. It is not officially supported by PortableApps.com since it is a fork of the open source code.

I really like the features

I really like the features oulines for the Mod R34 and have been tempted to use it. But out of loyalty to PA I'm waiting for the features to be incorporated into the true PA Menu. Im really really wanting the folders and renaming options as I use a 160 GB portable hard drive with 100+ (I think) portable apps so I really need it Smile

@ John - is there anything we grunts can do to help with the development of the menu ?

Xenon FM integration

Please add support to launch Xenon File Manager when click on Documents or Music for example, is a very simple feature, but simplifies life Biggrin

changing name of menu title

Is there a quick way to change the name of a prog in the menu-I have two different versions of "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition" there and I'd like to be able to differentiate them, since they both have the same exact title.

Where does the program (platform) retrieve these names, and can it be changed there to reflect in the menu?

Thanks.

See my comment above...

Not currently possible with the official PortableApps.com Menu.

Is currently possible in the unofficial R34 Mod Menu. The R34 Mod Menu is not supported by PortableApps.com. It is based on the original official source code for the PortableApps.com Menu. It is the 34th version of the menu that has been released since the original official PortableApps.com Menu was released.

Some say that the official PortableApps.com Menu will eventually incorporate the much-requested features and enhancements currently addressed in the unoffical menus. I would certainly like to see that.

See my post above giving links to the R34 Mod Menu.

I'm currently using the Mod34

I'm currently using the Mod34 and I like it. Will be happy when an official version does what I need it to do though so I can get back to an officially supported version. Smile
