ClamWin: Difficulty on Windows 98SE machine

I'm using a USB Flash drive with the ClamWin installed -- it will work on an XP machine, but not on a Win98SE machine.

Are there files missing in order for this to run on an W98SE machine?

Can you suggest a workaround that will make this work.

Thanks in advance.

...

You're not giving us enough information to go by. How exactly doesn't it work? Does it throw up any error messages, and if so, what do they say? Does it just silently refuse to start?

When you give us this information, we might be able to help you. Just saying "it doesn't work" isn't enough to go on. Computers are complex machines and there could be many reasons why a certain program doesn't work. Knowing the symptoms helps to narrow things down a bit.

Works fine on Win98SE

I'm running Portable ClamWin on a Win98 machine right now without issue. It's most likely something with the box. Are you sure it's been fully patched?

Same problems

I'm having the same problem- I have ClamWin portable installed on my USB stick. It works fine on Windows XP systems, but refuses to run on my Windows 98SE computer. All I see is the splash screen, and nothing happens (no error messages, it just doesn't start up).

Other portable apps run on the computer (have tried Firefox Portable, 7zip Portable and KeyPass). I've tried copying the folder into the HD, it still won't run. Any ideas?

Fully Updated?

Only thing I can think of is the PC may not be fully updates. Win 9x doesn't ship with a lot of stuff newer apps need. Some options:

1. Update your DCOM
2. Microsoft Libraries
3. Update Year 2000 stuff Update 1 and Update 2

Also, run Windows Update and be sure you've applied every patch available.

Same problem

I use a variety of PC's (a couple of Win98's), and I found that at least one earlier copy didn't work when I tried it on XP machines either. I did a comparison of the size of all the included files (between non starting and starting programs) and found nothing different. However I had a copy of the WinClamPortable that worked which put on my USB and haven't had a problems since. Hard to say what the deal was, but I (of course) will continue to monitor.
