I would love to have a PortableApps.com USB Edition of XBMC for Windows!

Any volunteer(s) to do the work?
I do not currently have the time or the opportunity to test this myself anytime soon but if you like to give it a go then begin by just downloading the latest release of XBMC for Windows installer from the link above and run the setup on one fresh install of Windows XP to install XBMC, (but do not start/run XBMC once the installation is complete), then copy the "XBMC" folder from under "C:\Program Files\", (I do not know how PortableApps works, maybe you will also need to take a copy of ), and then test to simply use that to build "XBMC Portable" for ProtableApple with that, (make sure that you edit the shortcut to remove the -p switch like WiSo noted so that everything will be written in the XBMC directory). If that alone does not work then first check the debug log, but if that does not tell you anything then you will need to turn the source code. PS! It is no longer called XBox Media Center, it has officially been renamed to just "XBMC".
I can get the application "packaged" somewhat, but its not correctly making a shortcut that will show up in the PA menu. XBMC was really designed to be cross platform (i.e. portable) so its pretty good about keeping all its settings in a local file already.

Pretty much out of the box, without the Portable apps creator. I tried again without it using the regular NSIS zip2exe script. The "problem" is the structure, I made D:\PortableXBMC\and to get it to show up in the menu I needed to have XBMC.exe and all its folders directly in this folder. Would probably require some real hacking or a recompile to get XBMC to look elsewhere (like into a subfolder) for its configs.
You must NOT use the "-p" switch when launching XBMC.exe or it will not be portable.
If you do not use the -p parameter then XBMC will save all save all profile settings to:
"\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\XBMC\" under Windows XP
* Where "[Username]" is your login username for that computer.
"\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Roaming\XBMC\" under Windows Vista.
* Where "[Username]" is your login username for that computer.
Thus to launch XBMC in full screen without a profile use the shortcut:
"XBMC.exe" -fs
Alternatively you can change the path of the master profile in system/profile.xml
PS! What the "-p" switch does when used is enable 'Profile Mode' which means it will save unique settings per user login under windows. The "-fs" switch is for 'Full Screen', if not used then XBMC will startup windowed.

I did a regshot of this program, I downloaded to E:\PortableApps\XBMCportable
It created an XBMC folder under the XBMCportable folder

For some reason I had another program running in the background at some point without me knowing. I deleted all the entries that I thought were made by it but their may still be more.
P.S this wasn't done on my computer so I'm not sure if their was something weird that happened during the regshot.

Has no one tested the portable install setting? It states that it will keep all files (and hopefully registry settings) stored in the installation directory. I don't see anyone mention that they used this setting when testing.
Limits are for people with no imagination.
XBMC for portable apps is the most desired app for me. It would be so awesome to just take my flash drive to a friends house during a party. I have tons of music and could control XBMC from my Android XBMC remote. I LOVE IT!
