[SOLVED] Localization for Extensions fails by Installing ThunderbirdPortable 2.0.0.17 as Update

The problem described in this thread was solved on 2008/11/22 with the release of ThunderbirdPortable 2.0.0.18 Revision 2

Thanks to John!

--------------
Hi there!
Today I wanted to update my ThunderbirdPortable 2.0.0.16 (german) to the new 2.0.0.17 (german) release.
I am using several extensions, most important to mention is lightning 0.8 (due to reported trouble with 0.9 I hesitate in updating). So, after updating with the 2.0.0.17 (german!) release, Thunderbird fails to locate the german language for several extensions and especially for lightning, that means that all messages and the user interface for these extensions are in english language now (while the mail user interface is still in german).
Fortunately I backed up a copy of the 2.0.0.16 folder...

I tried several workarounds:
- deactivting all extensions before updating and activating after updating - failed.
- installing german language-pack after updating - failed.

Does anybody know what has happened? Is there any solution for this problem?

Some additional info's:
OS: Vista
installation: as portable version in a PC-Folder (not on USB-Device)

Cheers
Volker

How did you update?

How did you perform the update? Did you download the ThunderbirdPortable 2.0.0.17 and run the paf EXE file, or did you let ThunderbirdPortable update itself?

How I updated

Hi Jim,

thanks for your reply.
I updated by running the paf EXE-file and installing over the previous version folder (I know that automatic update out of TB won't work either Smile

It's still quite a mystery for me what there goes wrong...

Maybe another bug?

There is a confirmed bug regarding the new ThunderbirdPortable installer, and this might be related.

Probably it is related

It might be related if other stored data is deleted by the new installer as well. I don't know where Thunderbird keeps localization information for the extensions so I can't track the error.
I will patiently wait for the next release and see things happen... Smile

See you,

What extension is the problem in your case?
