FileinPic Beta 4 *Updated*[7/9/09]

FileinPic allows you to choose a folder with files of your choice, compress it with 7zip, choose a .jpg picture of your choice to hide it in. If what you are hiding is very important or personal then use the encrypt feature. Just remember what password was used as there is no way to recover the password.

Known Limitations:

  • Folder names cannot contain spaces
  • The Unhide feature is not functional yet
  • Ratio button does not do anything yet.

To do list: Add the ability for the users to choose a universal folder where all the pictures containing your compressed archive will go.

Download:

If you experience any problems report what went wrong and be descriptive on what you did so I can replicate your problem and hopefully fix it.
Beta 4:
(7/9/09)

  • Improved way script calls on CMD by using variable "ComSpec"
  • Upgraded CCrypt to 1.8
  • Various script improvements to make it faster
  • Bug fixed where nothing would happen after you hit hide if you ran it from a drive other than C:\
  • Updated Installer to 0.91.7

Beta 3:
(7/8/09)

  • Improved code to be more efficient and faster
  • ComboBox is now functional with 0 being the lowest compression and 9 being the highest
  • Now added an icon and using portableapps installer 0.91.5

Steganography...

...is the "technical" term for what you're doing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography

Tested it and it works Smile

Some comments:

  • The combo box for 'Set Ratio' should be longer so the user can select any number they want without having to scroll it
  • A help file please, to explain what each function is (like Set Ratio) even if you haven't implemented it yet

Thanks, I hope autohotkey

Thanks, I hope autohotkey will allow me to extend the combo box, if not Ill try something else that might do the trick, I will write a html help file sometime today. That should cover everything this program should do. Do you think that I should just keep the original file name or the way it is now where it puts "Hidden" in front of the pic name? or I could randomly generate a number for the picture name.

Maybe

put an underscore in front of the original file and give the output the original filename e.g.
original file: _example.jpg
file with hidden stuff: example.jpg

I think this might help (http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/GuiControls.htm#DropDownList)

Use the R or H option to control the height of the popup list. For example, specifying R5 would make the list 5 rows tall. If both R and H are omitted, the list will automatically expand to take advantage of the available height of the user's desktop (however, operating systems older than Windows XP will show 3 rows by default).

That sounds like a good idea.

That sounds like a good idea. I think that the hidden pics should be redirected to the data folder and the original left in the original directory with the modified name. To: The creator of toucan and to John or any user who knows the correct commands to send to the 7z command version that will allow me to choose the path to save the archived and extracted files. This will allow me to add functionality to the Unhide button and remove quite a bit of code that I had to write to get the compressed file to be in the same directory as the folder you added. Also how would you get it to compress Folders that have spaces because currently it only allows folders that have none. Thanks in advance Smile

Sending

to the data directory seems a bit weird, it's probably better to by default send it to the Pictures directory but let the user change it.

Cool

This sounds like a pretty cool idea too and cant wait to try it. Unfortunately I think Im a little too inexperienced to try this out just yet. Will give it a go when a little further developed.

Just checking in....
I was wondering if there is any negative or positive feedback on this program, it has gotten 53 downloads, so out of those downloads im sure somebody has got something to suggest or a bug to report. I am just wondering cause I am starting to get bored now since the 1st 6wks is ending and now I have less homework. So any feedback would be appreciated so i can start to work on it before I get more work. Smile

I think the idea of this is

I think the idea of this is Great!! My only issue is the unhide button not being functional. If you can get this going I think more people will use it as I know I'm hesitatnt as I worry that if I do I wont be able to access the files I hide until you complete the app Sad Still Ive opened it up and it seems to work.

Suggestions:

* Work on unhide function STAT
* Better icon
* Though its not required I would suggest a better looking GUI just to make it more attractive
* Maybe rewrite description to illustrate the practical uses of the app such as encrypting/hiding private info without making it obvious

Just had a go at this and

Just had a go at this and though it starts up and seems to work I couldn't get it to do anything. I would say the help file suggested would be helpful.

K its been a while but i

K its been a while but i finally got around to updating this. New and improved should be less buggy and now you can set compression level using the combo box. I plan on improving this a bit more for user friendliness to make things a bit easier on the user but right now its greatly improved from the last release and now it has a nice icon! But anyways enjoy and let me know what you think of this and what else should be done to it. Many thanks Smile
Oh and please check out the above release notes to see what else was changed.

Updated again. Sorry i

Updated again. Sorry i realized yesterday that there were some flaws in the code, major ones that were present in all versions before. I believe I have at least eliminated most of them and I've noticed pretty decent speed increase overall. For the next release I plan on allowing the user to save all the Hidden Picture Paths into an .ini file and also allow the user to choose to save all output into the "Data\Settings\Images" folder once I get around to that. Though I may put 7zips output into the temp folder directory if the user does decide to save files to the Data directory to avoid any speed decrease from to many writes to their usb. But again this is maybe for 7zip cause it may become an issue of doing this especially if the program crashes somehow or if the usb is removed which would leave those files on the computer that is being used. Ill have to think about this but in the next release expect more improvements for this. Should become much more user friendly very soon. For now enjoy and report back any feedback or bugs. Thanks Smile

Edit: Almost forgot I also added in a drag and drop support that is now more efficient than any previous versions. Dragging a folder or a Jpeg file will be recognized and put into the proper edit fields. Then just hit the hide button and its that simple. Also im thinking about doing this, when u hit the unhide button it will contain the list of files hidden before and the user will be able to choose which picture to extract files from. If paths are relative to the script or on a usb then they will appear that way and be accessed like that for portability.
