I've read that if you create a file named ThunderbirdPortable.ini containing "AdditionalParameters=-safe-mode" and place it in the folder containing ThunderbirdPortable.exe, that Thunderbird will launch in safe mode.
How can I confirm that it is actually running in safe mode? I thought that in safe mode the add-ins would be disabled but it seems like at least one of my add-ins, Virtual Identity, is fully functional. Thanks
here. Its the official "How to know you're in Safe Mode" and it should work exactly the same with Thunderbird Portable.

I tried this:
Grabbed a fresh copy of Portable Thunderbird 2.0.0.17.
Configured it to a Gmail account.
Installed the Walnut theme.
Re-started ThunderbirdPortable.exe in regular mode and got Walnut.
Exited Thunderbird.
Placed ThunderbirdPortable.ini in the same folder as ThunderbirdPortable.exe.
ThunderbirdPortable.ini contains this only: AdditionalParameters=-safe-mode.
Started ThunderbirdPortable.exe and got Walnut.
Does this mean that Safe Mode is not working?
Did you create a real INI? Does it start with [ThunderbirdPortable]?

It was missing [ThunderbirdPortable]. Thanks John
