I have a nintendo and it is loaded with home-brew applications, including an organizer, PC remote controller, web browser, SIP phone...etc.
I wonder if any of the portable apps that are made available on this website can be loaded on Nintendo DS. I know that it uses an open source op. system and people who wrote programs for it find it to be very flexible and powerful. I am just an end-user who would love to see the portable apps community and the NDS community come together and further unlock the potentials of this wonderful little machine.

No Can Do, simple as this a lot of these apps here are for windows x86 and x64 based architecture not for arm based OS's such as the DS

The Nintendo DS is a ARM7 based device and doesnt run Windows NT or 9x. technicly the DS could run windows CE 4 but that is doubt ful. I have a DS and i run homebrew applications on it all the time. none of these fine programs on this site will work on the Nintendo DS legaly or illegaly.
There is a uLinux for the DS but it doesnt contain a GUI. dont expect Ubuntu on the DS anytime soon.
The possibility of a graphical linux is still there in the long run though. The new DS (DSi) will have an SD slot, so it (most likely) won't be long before a linux version (with graphics) will be made by a hacker with the desire to do such a task.

It might but the GUI will not be pretty like the desktop versions due to the limitation of the GPU on the DS. yes i have read ther specs of the DS-i but Nintendo is delaying the DS-i's release in the US until the DS lites sales taper off so we wont see it until 2009-2012.
I hope the internal SD card will be compatable with my flash cart so i will be able to play my emulated games
I am glad that it looks like there is hope. On my DS I have the Crayon Physics which is a wonderful open source game and it is comparable in any way you look at it with the PC version. So I know, from an end-user's point of view, that DS versions of some programs is not just a possibility but a reality.
I understand that the fine programs we have here are designed on a different structural platform than what DS can offer (for now!) but, I think whatever the Crayon Physics people did could be followed by other programs....Just a thought!

probibly not. from what i have read the only new benifit is the ability to buy games and download them to the SD card for play on the DSi. At 180 dollars NoA will have some major convincing to do before they will pry my DS lite out of my cold dead hands.
Other features are a .3mp interior camera and 3mp exterior. a larger display and some other stuff.
Nintendo hates flashcard users because along with the homebrew they enable piracy. For that matter they hate homebrew too because it circumvents the licensing process (and fees). While not being illegal, this does cast homebrew into a gray area where the PA crew has always made sure to honor licenses. It would be a minefield and really not worth the effort since PCs are everywhere and USB drives are in just about any store. Flashcarts have to be special ordered.
I would also be very surprised if it was even possible to boot the DSi from the new sd slot for exactly this reason. That would just be handing the hackers the keys to the city. Nintendo isnt quite that stupid, yet.
on my knowledge of homebrews, but...I did find a nice program for the Playstation 2 HDD add-on, where games could be loaded onto the HDD, but in my experience Windows and Playstation 2 do not cooperate. Windows wouldn't even find the Hdd because of the odd format the PS2 HDD used. Can't load the games if the pc can't find the other hdd..
that is why you use the elf HDloader or equvilent.
Is what I have, but it never found the hdd.

related stuff, I'm learning, so it was probably a problem on my part. (I did follow instructions, but....no luck.)

And HDloader/advance would not be able to load XP because its basically just loading cd images which still have to be in ps2 format. Although its CPU is MIPS based, like most windows CE devices, and the thing has usb ports. So seeing PA ported to that is more feasible than seeing it on the DS.
... But probably just as likely to happen.
you will never get Windows on a PS2... but you can get Linux installed particularly seeing as there was one specifically made for the PS2. Also Windows CE doesnt just support MIPS, it supports ARM, Xscale, Atom and i found out the more modern version of the Z80.
