Problem with extensions after upgrade..

So, I had some problems because the default setting on firefox was set to automatically have it attempt to upgrade itself. After clicking no again and again (yeah, I know I should've turned off the setting but my net time was limited, and I had to get to work) I accidentally clicked yes which caused firefox to attempt to upgrade itself prior to every startup..

Well, that got old real quick, so I decided to attempt to follow the upgrade instructions on the site. Seemed like everything worked out OK, but when I booted into firefox (I presume there was a problem with one of the extensions I was using) it gave me a big error window which I couldn't get past..

So, following the upgrade instructions to preserve all my extensions, I proceeded to downgrade my installation.. Problem is, ever since I did that my (very important) varied extension settings refuse to persist. For example I have a couple of crash recovery tools. Sometimes they work fine, and sometimes they refuse to restore my pages (both of them fail that is). But mostly they are guaranteed to fail if I remove my USB key and attempt to reload on another computer (which I do a lot to attempt to find a stable computer at the library where I compute). This is something that also didn't happen previously. Sage also refuses to retain any of the RSS feeds I put in it.

Could it be this is caused by having the extensions placed in the 'new' directories as instructed on the upgrade part of the FAQ, and could putting them back in the 'correct' directory possibly fix this?

You shouldn't be using crash recovery/session management extensions with Portable Firefox, anyway. They kill performance and shorten your USB key's lifespan because they're constantly writing to your drive.

I suppose that's good

I suppose that's good information, however, I kinda depend on these because the computers I generally use are these crappy 'backpack' Dells, and they frequently just flat our reboot themselves.. I tend to have a lotta tabs open, and I'm not in the habit of bookmarking every page I open (maybe I should get in that habit, but I tend to use netvibes for my feeds, and so I open several stories on tabs, and it is usually upon opening or closing a tab that the reboot gets triggered)..

So I will hold out for an answer.. Hmm, maybe I could just copy pff to the desktop and run it from there?

Indeed, that's one option. You could even write a script (or get someone else to) to automate the process.

You could also decide (supposing you have the money) to get a portable hard drive. HDDs deal a lot better with constant reads and writes than flash media does.
