Toucan logoToucan 2.0.5 has been released. Toucan is a tool for advanced users that allows you to sync, backup and secure files on your portable device. This new release has several bug fixes and new features along with a new user manual. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format for easy use from any portable device and integration with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

Features

Toucan Screenshot Toucan is a small utility allowing you to synchronise, backup and secure your data with more options than the built in suite utilities. Its features include:

  • Four synchronization modes, copy, update, mirror and equalize.
  • Four backup modes, complete, update, incremental and restore, in industry standard zip and 7-zip files
  • AES-256 encryption using ccrypt.
  • Command line support, allows you to create a batch file for repeated jobs

New In This Release

Toucan 2.0.5. has fixed a number of bugs and improved startup speed as well as bringing new features. A new user manual is included along side translations to Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Turkish and Czech. The rules sytem has had its back end updated to plain text match by default rather than regex match (see the manual for more details). Finally multiple selection has been enabled in the file selection controls and the installer has been updated.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Toucan is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

It seems to not work on SPECIFIC computers. It works fine for most people on XP. There is an ongoing discussion to determine what is causing issues on those other computers. For example, it's running just fine in XPSP3 for me now. More info here: https://portableapps.com/node/18179
